What is the policy on putting designs we make in our portfolios? Even if they don't win, do they still belong to the person running the contest, or can we put them on our portfolios? Very confused about this, any help appreciated

Only winning (paying) designs belong to the contest holder.

You own losing designs, including silver and bronze, and may enter them in future contests.

If the contest is a multiple winner contest and the CH has selected and paid for your (losing) design, they own it.

CH's will occasionally offer to buy losing designs to get them off the market.

Has a financial transaction occurred?

(During the transaction you will transfer all rights.)

If yes, they own it.

If no, you own it.

One thing to keep in mind

If you use the entry in an off site profile  be sure to put a dummy name in the design. Clients call all the time asking why entries from the contest show up all over the net. They do not want non winning designs representing their  company    :)  So just put a no name or made up company name . You own the design  but not the name in the design the contest was in

Thank you

This clears a lot of doubt.. Very crisp and clear explanation. Thanks

If you put the design on a portfoio outside of designcontest it is always best to change company name on non winning designs. If it is a winning design then ask the client for permision to display  the design.

Thank you
