DesignContest.net had some very bad experience with the new hosting provider. Several hours of somewhat around 24 hours we were on the server the site was down. We had tourgently move to another server. And I really hope things will go smoothly now.

Since the server was down we couldn't create backup so all the posts made today were lost. I really appologize for the inconvenience and I would like to ask you guys to repost them. Thanks for your understanding!

Wow, I was scared there for a minute... thought it vanished into cyberspace!

What might be nice is to host an information site via another host... Basically just use it during the times that DC is offline... The host I use has servers in another location so that in the event of tragedy they can update their users of the events/issues and what is being done to correct the problem(s)... Just an idea...

*edit*
I forgot to mention... From what I've noticed, it appears that several days of posting are gone... cuz that last update (aside from here) was listed as 9/30/06... Just thought I'd note it.

yes, but with DC it really doesn't happen very often. And it wouldn't be longer than 24 hours anyways - we backup things regularly so all the website can be restored in the matter of hours on another server.
In today's case it took me such a long time just because I was trying to understand what was going on. I really couldn't imagine hosting service can just be that bad without any reason! Well, now I know - it can!

I didn't suggest that you use a pay service to provide you with a source for the members (both Contestants and Contest holders) to hear updated information during an outage... My hosting company provides details if they have an outage that occurs for a mere few minutes, let alone for a whole day... If you don't want to do it, then don't... I'm not twisting anyone's arm by making my thoughts known. I simply made a suggestion that I thought(and for free I might add) would aid DC.net in their pursuit for excellence. If you feel that not notifying the users AND the contest holders that the servers are experiencing a glitch and not that anyone of the DC staff has decided to take DC.net offline and run off with the money, by all means carry on as you have.
