Does anyone here made the switch from HDD to SSD? I did. It works perfectly! very quite, a bit fast compared to a regular HD. But after a month or so, it suddenly crash. I'm still using a power pc mac. I'm not sure if that's the cause of the crash (compatibility of PPC and SSD). I'm still trying to recover all my files. Not yet sure if i'm going to continue using SSD or go back to HDD.

How about you guys? How's your switch to SSD?

I didn't switch to SSD, because i'm a mac user and its quite expensive to change the hdd :)
But i do have a coworker that switched to SSD , he is a computer geek, and he sais that his pc is almost twice as fast.
I think he switched about 5-6 months ago and he had no problems so far, so maybe its just bad luck.

I honestly think you should stick with the SSD, i've heard just great things about it.
Good luck

Personally, I prefer HDD because I like the space. SSD are newer and, therefore, have a lot of growing to do. Once they do, they'll be more powerful, faster, and cheaper. Moore's law ;)

As for your crash, I don't think that's a typical problem. I don't really hear about SSD crashing. If you want to stick with them, I'm sure your second one would be fine. Just in case, though, back up your files regularly.

They are a bit expensive.
I hope to become cheaper.

I put inside my dell laptop a 256Gb SSD as OS and software drive only! I also optimised the temps, cache and other OS files to be kept on the standard HDD. I put the HDD (1TB 7200 rpm) the laptop came with in the DVD bay, and the DVD is in an external USB3 case. I don;t remember when i used my DVD last time. So, the deal is to keep only operating systems and software on the SSD, so they work almost instantly. Writing kills the SSD, reading is ok. Keep you valuable files on the second, standard HDD, back it up often on phisical media (DVDs or whatever) and in the cloud like i do, and it is well worth it. My speed is double, all program starts instantly, i do not have nois, heat or lag.

I have 60Gb Intel SSD for system and 1TB HDD for data. System is up for less than 10sec, and it works fine for 4 months since I bought SSD.

not for now. the capacity is small and the price is high. May next few years it will become very common.

I'm using SSD about 4 months without any problems. Only OS and apps are on SSD, data and backups on HDD.

It's not so spectacular, but booting OS and starting programs is faster, and the most important - everything is nice and "smooth".

ok thanks. what percentage differences boot, between the HHD and SSD?

I have long wantid using SSD. but I am still not sure of his ability.
I've been using the 6 HDD on my computer with a capacity of 9 Tb. because, SDD rather expensive so I think twice about using them. but, if the difference is so far away I want to use SSD.

I've seen articles HDD vs. SSD and pretty good. :)

Not really thrilled with SSD speed experience (Kingston V+200 120GB).

But, again, it might be nforce SATA drivers that make things not so impressive on my configuration (AMD K10 + nForce 720D chipset). I'm yet to see that 10 sec boot up time people talk about.

Don't get me wrong, it really is noticeably faster then 7200 rpm drive I used before, it's just not THAT impressive.
