Since they introduced the self-scanning point at my local Tesco I've been introduced to the activity that all checkout staff have been doing for years, looking all over the product for the barcode.

I'm not sure whether these designs will make the barcode harder to find or easier. I wonder who the first company will be to have a barcode as their actual Logo?

My goodness, the graphic designer in me wants to become a shopaholic! Great topic. And I noticed that Coy has been doing some creative UPCs himself!

The art of design is making something new within meaning itself. Every designs must have meaning itself. If you just put something like that barcode, it's eyecathing but the meaning of your design is gone, except u use that barcode itself as meaning of your logo.

I get what your saying. But if your designing labels and everything is eye pleasing except for that black (or dark color) bars w/ white background why not make that eye sore more pleasing. Giving the bar code more meaning and multi purposes.

In my case I'm taking an element from the Logo and giving the brand more power by connecting the brand in other areas. Same will be done w/ boxes that have transparent areas. Using the elephant for the window instead of a square or circle. It just adds to the brands power. When some one picks it up looks at it they'll most likely notice the bar code which will add that brand to their memory as something unique.
If they are like my kids they'll show others since it's not something you see everyday, thus adding to the brands noticability.
Giving the image more meaning than just a bar code. ;)

NO need to change anything. You're thoughts/comment are fine.
Just wanted to state why I've done my Bar code design and the thoughts behind it :D
