It's a great idea em.e, but unfortunately we just don't have to money to offer such a thing. It would require alot of webspace and bandwidth.
Now, I have personally wanted to start a small reseller hosting account which would cost me around $200/year. If I did, it could be possible that I would offer almost-free image hosting averaging around $5/year. What do you think of that?

sounds good, but, i would do it penguin.lol...it may be cheap..but there are so many competitors out there..and to get a good amount of traffic would be pretty hard. like coma said, there are so many free image hosters out there..it probably wouldnt work. If you get alot of website projects, and you could branch out to do it..and have your customers buy your hosting, that might work. but, if you wanted to try that with your magazine site, i will help, if i get some money, i would dontate to the cause..=D

"there are so many free image hosters out there"
That's not true at all. There is not a single quality website where you can host a reasonable number of images for free. Not a one. Trust me, I've looked. You can get free, crappy webhosting through geocities or tripod, but they won't let you host images. I'm sure we're all familiar with the "Image hosted by Tripod" image?
I think that image hosting is not a good idea for DC. It would be (as mentioned before) very costly, and most serious designers who would enter a contest here are paying for webhosting of there own so they don't really need it. Sure it would be nice to have, but I don't think it's very practical.

I would love to try to do cheap image hosting, as i have a lot of bandwidth sitting around. But does anyone know of some good backend software that would control it and do billing for it? I have seen some but they were costly. What kinda bandwidth do yall think something like this would use i know it would be in the gigs but do you think it would be over 500 gigs a/month?
Plus what do you think for prices? The only thing i could think of at the moment would be like $1 per image and it would be hosted indeffently as long as its access every so often, for example if its not access for 2 months or so the system would delete it, but if it is access it would say on the server for as long as its accessed.
What do you think?

I could do image hosting. My offer would be $5/month for 50 Gb bandwidth/month. Only static content (html pages, images, any other downloads) would be allowed though, no scripting or mysql databases at this price. If anyone is interested, you're welcome to negotiate this further with me.

Hi, guys, don't know if this works for you but I found this on the web and lets you hold 5 images per day for linking only and it's free.
Take a look at http://jpg.uploader.net/user/
I think will be very usefull for new designers that need to have a place for the big posts.
See ya,
