thanks again for props and constructive comments

Forgot to mention, practically the main reason for doing this site/portfolio is to have it for DC.net design team application :) so thanks DC for that trigger force :)
before that all my works were just stored on my comp

I didn't knew about english/american difference in spelling this particular word. I found one more work in portfolio that is spelled organisation. Because I'm neither english or american. I'll leave organisation there and organization in ski4u logo, at least for now [although my spell checker says organization is correct way to write it :)]

I like the site alot. You need to work the logo for sure. If you can't develop your own logo how are you going to be able to develop someone elses? :D

I would personally move the comment box to the bottom. The bright green kindof draws my eye up there instead of to your work.

I love your "drop" photography. Might make a nice overall theme for your site.

It is good, thanks for letting me see it.

I very much like the Ski4U logo. Your online portfolio looks a bit messy, probably it will be a good idea to organize it a little bit.

Your photographs are excellent!
It would be nice to see some of your work immediately when the page opens up.
Showcase one of your best designs, and maybe let it provide inspiration for your name.
Nice work!

El-Ree — I can tell that you're inspired and talented. For comments on your portfolio, great work! A very important part of design is typography. You may want to research typography. Wolfgang Weingard is my favorite. I can see by the way you're experimenting with type is similar to Wolfgang's style. Keep up the great work! Peace. JC

I like the green/yellow color. Keep it that simple but maybe add some small graphics or a logo to enhance it a lil bit. Good work!

wow I'll start blushing :)
thanks to all of you

If you can't develop your own logo how are you going to be able to develop someone elses?

nice point, but that is not problem in this case. I can figure out new logo/name for myself [that I really like] every other day or so, but I have problem in "sticking" with one particular logo/name. I still haven't done logo that I can say "wow this is me. There are a lot that look good, but I don't need to change this for at least 5-6 years" :)

Thanks for other portfolio/layout/color/typo advices. I'll consider everything, but again something needs to push me little :) and I'm kinda busy these days with some other stuff, but anyway I plan to brush up that portfolio.

The first thing that stands out that is bright green you have used. I would say if you wanna keep your portfolio very simple, but still distinguish it I would add a logo on the top. I see that you mentioned something about naming yoursite. If its a personal portfolio you may even wanna use a variation of your own name. Good luck and I like some of your logo work :)

I like the whitespace and the simplistic text links. However, as someone already mentioned, having to scroll down to see the design is a downfall. Put the designs (which I like a lot!) "above the fold."

But the biggest problem I see with the site is your presentation. Why are you creating this portfolio? (This is kind of rhetorical; you've already said a major reason was to apply for the DC design team....).

Think of it this way: If you are showing off your works as a designer in order to gain respect from other designers and potentially join a design team, all you need to do is present your work with your name on it. No logo needed. No catchy nickname or business name. Just your name.

However...

If you are looking to gain clientelle and you want people to take you seriously, then you have some decisions to make. You said:

I can figure out new logo/name for myself [that I really like] every other day or so, but I have problem in "sticking" with one particular logo/name. I still haven't done logo that I can say "wow this is me. There are a lot that look good, but I don't need to change this for at least 5-6 years" :)

Boy, can I relate! Picking my business name was one of the hardest things I've had to do. I went through several ideas, and ran everything by a ton of workmates, friends and family. It had to be something I knew represented my work and my personality. Took me a couple of weeks of non-stop conceptualizing and researching (digging through the thesaurus, looking at other designer's business names, making sure the domain was available, making sure other businesses weren't using it, etc.) before BAM! It came to me.

(incedentally, I had to make up a word. :))

So, work at that name. Think like a business person. Will your name be memorable? Is it easy to spell? Can you get the domain name? There are a lot of tips on creating a business name -- look them up and then choose which ones you want to follow.

Lastly, go through your entire site and take out everything that is self-depreciating. I saw several comments that make you look unprofessional, unsure and uninterested. example: "Never sent entry for poster design contest I love... Never fixed typo". Fix the typo. Never mention that you didn't get around to sending the design in. Makes you look like you can't follow through.

Go back through your designs and think of everything positive about that design. Instead of saying "can't decide which one is best" say "client and I are working toward the most marketable logo"

I hope this helps. You can't be expected to be taken seriously by clients unless you show you have some self confidence and you have put some thought into your business.

Your designs are worth that much effort! :)

That girl is by all means ugly and it kinda ruins the design, but I like the way things are put together.

Perhaps I should show my own new portfolio here, one of these days. :) You people may like it.

Love the graphic at the bottom! :) My only critique is that, i think it should've been more organized. The portfolio seems to be "all around". I don't really like the color of the form. The green is hard to on the eyes. You should also consider your viewers. Like me I can't stare long to bright colors so I will just leave the site. An important factor you should consider is to make your client stay on your site and look through your work. But if there's one thing that makes them uncomfortable, they will just leave. Hope that helps.

Thanks again for all comments. I just wanted to comment on this

yes, there is that self-depreciating tone all over portfolio, but that is probably because I do design 'for fun' and I'm pretty self-critic. Actually I have some income from design, but that's not main source of my incomes, so I don't have to worry about potential clients. Actually I would like to design when I have idea, when I want to do something, throw it out of my head and not to be obligated to for example come up with some idea in 3 days deadline for some boring/narrow minded organization. That is the reason why I think I could never do commercial design, work in some design studio etc. Only way I can imagine I have incomes from design is that I design something and THEN I sell it [for example t-shirts, calendars etc etc].

That girl is by all means ugly and it kinda ruins the design, but I like the way things are put together.

Actually girl isn't ugly, strange is better description, but in that picture she come up pretty bad I must agree.

...and that green color is source of pretty extreme comments :) Some of you like it, some of you hate it. No middle, that's interesting.
I'll maybe change it in next portfolio update, I don't know. For now, I don't have much time for working on this.

First drop picture was somewhat yellowish and I just adjusted hue in photoshop to get more green color, similar for second drop. Everything was more blue/yellow i just adjusted colors, plus sharpening I think. regarding sunset, as I remember, that is original photo without alterations..
this post reminded me that i haven't updated this portfolio since I've made it. I hope I'll add some new stuff soon. Each time I look at this small portfolio it looks worse then the last time i saw it. i guess that's good thing, sign of progress
