I've been messing around with a header for my site and I'm bad with design, but I'm worse with logos. I just don't do them well, so I generally try to keep it simple so it doesn't look tacky.

I've been thinking for a while onto how I could spice up my header and I was thinking mabye having a pixel image of Isaac Newton leaning on an apple tree with an apple falling down. Giving the idea of an "invention" or "creation" which is the idea of the site. I tried, it looked like a 4th grader drew it so I ditched it :(.

Anyway here is the header

If you would like to comment on other things other than the header that's fine but I'm mostly looking for suggestions on how I can spice up the text.

Another idea I had was turn the o's into a stone wheel, like the invention of the wheel. That too however looked extremely bad.

Thanks.

hey kfreak, great picture for a header.
excellent color choice.

i think your newton/apple idea has good p otential. I would suggest a white silohuette of a trunk and and newton sitting under it. The apple somewhere above his head of course.

the trunk should bleed off the top of the header and span almost the entire heighth of it. Positioned just left of the right red brush.

very simple to create and effective.
i hope that helps.
if you want an idea of how to get a good silohuette for newton let me know.

I like it. Very nice.

I guess my only comment is the brightness and catchiness of the picture. Are you intending for the picture to not stand out that much? My only suggestion is to use the same picture, but with a clear sky and fix the levels in Photoshop.

That's just me though :)

Thanks for the comments guys. The photo was actually taken by a friend of mine who has just recently gotten into photography. I thought it was a beautiful picture and he was flattered that I was using it.

If you could give me an idea of how to get a good silohuette oTTo that would be awesome.

I'll mess around with it a little more tonight with your guy's suggestions and post an update.

Thanks.

Add some tension to your header. "Tension builds interest," says my design teacher. What tension is, is basically a small dose of insecurity. Everything seems to solid, and immobile. Add a sharp edge somewhere, (one of the letters would be a good choice) or create something unstable, falling, or connecting the frame to the content of the site. Try to maintain order and balance while doing this. If you're successful, you will be amazed.

since your friend is in to photography this should be real easy.

have him take a picture of you in newton like pose (whatever that might be). Perhaps next to a tree. Trace, fill with white and your done. Good luck
