Using phpnuke, postnuke, one of the nukes...

Not a good impression for a php site.

I agree. PHPNuke, Postnuke, etc. are all horrible scripts. To be brutally honest, I wouldn't really trust a site that uses it and talks about programming.

If you want your site to appear more professional, I'd advise creating your own system. If you haven't done that before, it shouldn't be too hard--just some database interaction with PHP.

Now, that is called reinventing the wheel, or, inventing the wheel. Why would anyone want to do that? I'll tell you why - to learn PHP along the way. This is not my purpose. I have been coding in PHP for about 3 years now and my purpose is to build a community where php coders can learn new things from reading tutorials and articles, PHP tips. I am not going to boast about my skills or anything, I just want to say that building a site engine is not my purpose. If it was, then yes, I would build my own.
Posnuke is a good script if you know how to use it right. When you say it's terrible, what exactly do you mean? Saying it's terrible without giving any proof is just a bare statement that has a right to exist, but will stay just that - bare, ungrounded statement.
If you care to elaborate more on that, I will be glad to discuss it with you. Until then - cheers.

Well, actually, that's the main reason I didn't really mention any of the problems. I'm sure there are tons of people here who think it's like one of the best scripts ever made, so I don't really want to start a flame war against me.

If you go do a Google search for "PostNuke security holes," you'll find tons of vulnerabilities.

And I'm really not saying you need to reinvent the wheel, but, like I said, PostNuke and related software make a page look extremely unprofessional.

You may be right about phpNuke, but PostNuke is a more secure version of it, especially if you know how to run it, so it has much less problems.
I actually did the search as you suggested and found only a few bugs related to older versions:
http://www.google.co... security holes

Now if you look at the Postnuke download page, you'll see that the latest release was in July, and no security holes have been found since then:
http://download.host...=category&id=45

And this is the Download page for phpNuke:
http://www.phpnuke.o...wdownload&cid=1

Checking the Changelog file will explain everything.

PostNuke has been designed off the phpNuke but with security in mind, so it's less prone to vulnerabilities.

I must agree with cai, as soon as I see a page run with php nuke or post nuke, I classify it as a "newbie site." That's just the way I think I guess.

Problem in Database Connection

This Website is powered by PostNuke

Although this site is running the PostNuke software
it has no other connection to the PostNuke Developers.
Please refrain from sending messages about this site or its content
to the PostNuke team, the end will result in an ignored e-mail.

i have a question for you phpd.

Start an engine from scratch? You mean a site engine like postnuke? Not too hard, but will take you a long time to complete.

Yes of course its not hard, but it does look better if you trying to teach people or show people what PHP is wouldnt it be best if you showed that you have some sort of knowledge by doing something yourself. Please do not take me wrong you could be a great PHP Programmer but all i am saying it doesnt look good for you if you take easy options.

I'd rather spend more time on adding more content to the site than on writing the engine from scratch, wasting a couple of months time, which is very limited anyway and not achieve my goal in the end, because I spend my efforts on the wrong stuff.
