Fountain Fills (Corel 12)

I've been using Corel for quite some time.

But I still can't get the hang of the fountain fill tool.
When I export the vector, the end result never lives up to the original.
Always looks washed-out. And I can usually see the banding.
The vector looks great. But the jpeg looks pretty bad.

I've experimented with the settings, but can't seem to lock it down.
I thought it might have to do with the palette I'm using.
Perhaps the actual size of the vector being squeezed into 640 x 480
pixels might have something to do with it?

You guessed it.... I'm clueless.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

not sure about Corel 12...
...Perhaps you can consider exporting to .eps format...then open the eps in corel photopaint or adobe photoshop...save the jpg or png from there.
(Place the design on 640 x 480 canvas (mm or other unit)...then export selected only to eps)

my advice :
1. work at 1:1 scale
2. try to use only perfect angled gradients ( 0-90-180 degrees) - these are the only gradients that translated also when you save as .ai
3. export as png

After taking your advice (and much experimentation), I still came up short.
However, it did make me look a little harder at what I was doing wrong.

If you create in RGB, then export in RGB. (Duh.)

Check the following before export;

1. The color looks same in RGB code and CMYK code.
2. Never Use Default Color like #F00, #0F0 etc with mixed color.

the export either in PNG or in JPG and then check the effect...
