I rebuilt my PC from the ground up a few months ago and as I was doing it, I promised myself that my next computer would be a Mac. I've been yearning to make the switch for... years now, I guess... but I'm going to hold out a little bit longer. Leopard should be amazing and I want to see how the games that iD and EA promised at the WWDC turn out.

Now I hear that newer, slimmer Macbooks (with Leopard?!) are on their way to the market... I know I can't afford a computer right now, but it will sure be tempting.

I have used a PowerPC 600 then a G4 between 2000-2006. Now that a G5 is too expensive i have a AMDAthlon64 3200+, 1Gb ram.

Oh God, how much i wish a G5...

I have a Dual 867 G4 Powermac that I bought back in 2002;
I use MSN Messenger, Yahoo IM, and iChat or AIM on my MAC, tpuentes.

You could still buy a MAC and it would work for your wife to communicate with her friends.
Maybe too little too late now though, huh?

Hey zooley the G5's arent that expensive its the new one's that are expensive. Look on ebay for a G5 they are quite reasonable compared to the Mac Pro.

Hey thats why I am here zooley, and guess what... I bought my Power 867 G4 off of ebay back in 2002 for $1600 which back then was a good deal. I wonder what I could get for that now, probably the lowest Mac Pro or maybe the best G5???

I couldnt sell my G4 for anything though, I might get $500 if I am lucky.

500 at most Brand7, but not worth to sell for that. I hope also to have the money for a G5 asap.

Good point, I would probably donate it if it came down to it and save up for a new one but at some point i will need a new car and thats a little more important than a computer. If i dont have a car how do I get to work or anywhere? Dallas is not good for commuting using public transportation.

That is because they havent developed a good program for MAC, Yahoo has done so you cant mic chat but you can use a webcam and iChat or AIM is better you can mic chat and webcam.

There are some other programs as well. I do understand your dilemma though.
Get a Mac Mini something small and portable and not too expensive.

I am going to buy a macbook pro for school before jan.

my desktop which i just finish building is custom build gathering parts from online sites and ebay

2.66ghz core2duo
320gb western digital harddrive
120gb toshiba harddrive
2gb muskin ram
Abit motherboard
4 12mm fans
12 usb slots
Sony dvd burner
express 24 in 1 memory card reader
one 17" crt dell monitor
and one 17" lcd monitor

usualy dual monitors is extremely fun and helps productivity! highly reccomended. i built my WHOLE PC desktop under $550 so it is possible for those who are on a budget like me :D

pretty happy wit hthe PC im not a big fan of macs, i know i know its great for desginers, but i enjoy fixing up my computer its like a car. and with mac its just harder to do that. i mean i only spent $550 US and look at the stats so far? anyways i plain to upgrade to 4gb ram in my pc =) and a video card :]

Actually its not that hard at all, i knew people that hacked their pc's and made they operate just like and MAC or rather function like a MAC the look and feel. You would basically need the same type of hardware but a different operating system is key! And Apple is based off of UNIX and they have their own programming in it as well.

If you research it UNIX is one of the best platforms for any computer. Stable, reliable, secure. The best!

He he i used PC and even never touch Mac:D.

I use AMD at home and Office in different generation, both of them "old". At Home: AMD Duron and at Office ATHLON XP.

Maybe only me in this site used old generation PC, but it still works to design.:)
