Hi,
Just for discussion's sake, which vector illustrating program do you use and why you like it over the other?

Personally, I use Adobe Illustrator because I learned and was taught using Adobe Illustrator. I've tried Macromedia Freehand briefly (10 minutes maybe), and I didn't think it was worth learning the shortcut keys and features of Freehand.

Illustrator.. same reason for me pretty much. Illustrator was actually the first graphic design programs I had ever used. I picked up on back when I was 12 or so. After a while, I eventually found that photoshop was much better for what I was doing and mainly used that. I never really even tried using freehand even though it came with my Studio MX bundle. The only programs I use from it are Flash and Dreamweaver.

Personally I use Illustrator more... but I also use Freehand. There are some things that Freehand can do that Illustrator can't. Not to mention Freehand is more flash friendly. I know Illustrator now has the export flash thing... but eh. Each have their own good uses. But how, how about comparing Painter and Photoshop... ummm... now that's a tasty subject. LoL... oh yea... I just want to say "whoop whoop" to the Indiana, peeps here. :p

simplistik-

ha ha. I just realized you were in Indiana also. I never noticed that before. I live in the in the Northwest. Valparaiso to be exact. It is only about 45 minutes from Chicago, so that is pretty cool. Next year, I will be living in Muncie. Do you live anywhere near Noblesville? I have family there. Also, your stuff is awesome. I know we aren't supposed to comment on people's work really, but we are in the general chat section now. Great job on that character design.

actually, I live in indianapolis but a good college buddy of mine lives in Michigan City. I go visit him every now and again up there. Thanx for the compliment on the char design, nothing to special though.

logotect-
right now I would suggest staying with Ill 10, although CS has a few new features it's nothing to empressive, and it's glitchy. And since the standard of Ill is not CS and is either 9 or 10 the biggest problem is has is that it's not backwards compatible with text. Basically, what that means if you have live type in CS, and try to save it as a 10 document it won't keep the live text it will convert it to outlines and sometimes it doesn't convert it accurately. But one cool thing is that you can apply style sheets on your paragraphs which is really cool.

Whenever I design logos in Illustrator, I convert the text to vector anyways, just in case a client takes it to a printer that does not have the font that I used in the logo. But sometimes, I agree, for very complicated fonts, Illustrator doesn't convert them accurately.

Right same here... but say you develop something that will be constantly changing. Like a logo that has 50 slogans they want to use and keep changing for different occasions, if you use CS then it won't work. Or God forbid you use it for like a newsletter or somethin' like that, but if you do you send it to them and they want to edit it and make changes to the wording. In those cases it wouldn't be good.

I have Illustrator CS, but it seams that don't like much Win XP OS. It crashes after 10-15 minutes... Adobe still have no explanation for that and I know that other ppls have the same trouble. Anyway, I vote for Illustrator. :)

p.s. If I don't lose my patience while waitin' for patch... ;)
