Select and press "Delete" right?

Ok but how do I simply delete without the fill in panel coming up with the choices of background, foreground color or content aware fill?

Click on the layer in which you want to work then go to "select" tab, there you'll find a "Color Range" option click on it and click on the color which you wanted to remove then click ok and whole color will be selected and now you can delete those whole color.

and if that doesn't work because al the colors sort of mix a little you can try to copy the layer, pump up the hua and saturation, then select en go to the other layer en delete the color that you wanted to delete or mask it if you still want to edit it.

It sounds like your layer is locked. That means when you try to delete it, the deleted area is going to fill with the background color you have in your swatches. Double click the layer to unlock it, then add an empty layer behind it. That should delete the area you want without filling it with a color.
