Maybe it is like to us, in Romania. First time when Iliescu was elected, we expected better then it was in comunism. And it was better, but not like we expected to be. :)
I think we all expect more then we get. But with Putin, at least they know what to expect for, because he was president of Russia until now (from what I know), so they know him.
Maybe we have to believe that people can change. When a "full time" comunist turns into a democrat, who claims he believe in his ideeas of democracy, what can you expect for?
You know? I found out that people are very afraid of changes, big changes.

You are right. The label of democracy didnt give any security by itself. Indeed, when it came to countries where they dont have any reference or a point of comparison, is more though to know what do democracy exactly do for them. And lol.... yeah thats true full time communist turned into a democrat... sounds like a democrat turned into a republican... hehe believe me, ask Arnold Schwarzenegger.

BTW, u know Ruxique, one of my best friends is romanian, but living on US since he was 11 years-old or so. So let me tell you... noroc, frate!

People just need to understand that no president can make life better. The most a government can do is make conditions of life and work easier by lowering taxes and making less complicated but fair laws. The rest is up to people, not the president or government.
