So I had a couple ideas on raising the bar for quality submissions by us designers, to promote the professionalism of DC as a whole and attract more contest holders.

It's nice to see that applications are now voted on by active DC team members. What I was thinking for new team members was a graphic battle of sorts. If in the future garaunteed contests are restricted to DC team members only, this could kind of garauntee the quality of work for the contest holder. If a newly registered user wants to join the team, they could challenge two current team members to a dual. The challenger could pick what kind of contest it is (Logo, Website or Flash) and our wonderful moderators could decide the theme for the dual (high tech, entertainment, ecommerce, etc.) and perhaps a fake company name to work with.

A list of current team members could be kept to see who is currently in a design battle (as you wouldn't want to be in two battles at once) and what kind of battles they compete in (logo, website or flash). Current team members would have to pick at least one category to compete in, but you could be listed for all three if you really wanted. Contests would be held once a month, up to 3 seperate contests at a time. The winners (2) would be voted upon by current team members. Winning said battle could intern generate a good standing in the afore mentioned reputation system.

All of this of course not enforced until the moderaters decide we have reached an appropriate limit for the number of DC team members. If a team member has been inactive for 3-6 months, perhaps thier status could be revoked and a spot freed for the team so that a new applicant would simply need to be voted on as they are now.

As for generating more income and promoting DC as a whole, the submissions from the battles (as well as normal contests, except the winning submission) could be sold as templates on the main DC site (as per moderator descretion of course). Funds generated by said templates would go both to the origonal creator and to DC. The creators of course would decide if they would like thier work put up as a template, or if they'd like to retain the work for themselves.

As far as the index of DC (before you enter the forums) this could be the place that these templates are listed for sale. Also as encouragement for new contest holders, and explination of this system and the quality of the DC team could also be mentioned. Winners of garaunteed contests could also be listed on the index. After these things are put into place perhaps we could look into new areas of search engine indexing, and advertising if general DC funds are generated.

Well, now that I have it all out on virtual paper, perhaps template sales aren't the greatest idea; it'd be a real shame if DC turned into one of those ho-hum template sales sites, which wouldn't be beneficial to the contests themselves (unless of course we marked the prices on the templates way way up to insane prices, hehe). Heck I'm not even all that keen on these ideas myself anymore but I'll let yall decide.

humm... well I like the battle idea - just not as entry into the Team. We now have a committee of 5 Design Team members who judge and vote on all new applicants, and I find this so far to be working best.

But the battles would be cool for anyone looking for a challenge, or maybe as a weekly contest run by DC.net. We could then put up a For Sale section for people to browse through, and if they like the work they can contact the creator and purchase it.

Though I like the idea, but I think it is too complicated and would be hard to implement. It is fun of course, but it would definitely slow down the process of processing the applications.

As for a battles idea, I like it and DC walpaper contest could be considered such a battle! More ideas will be coming!
