Specifics:

* CPA

* Wants to focus on himself as the brand, not a company, not even that he's a CPA.

* Want's something strong, intriguing, and slightly patriotic (i want to achieve this by design, not color)

* Specifically used the phrase "Rugged Individualism"

* Men as the main audience, potentially sexist (lol)

Explanation

Obviously - I made it his name. And only really his name, no arbitrary marks or similar. The font was good, but I felt it needed more. I started thinking about Rugged Individualism, Patriotism, things that appeal to men - particularly men that could be sexist...and then it hit me.

Military, or more specifically, Air Force.

Not that I think the military is sexist. However, I do know there are men out there, many of them chauvinistic, who love military history and design. Particularly airplanes.

So, I added the "wing flags" on the sides of owen, and a small star in the "O".

That's the process thus far. Thoughts?

I am not quite familiar with US air force symbols and designs, maybe that is why it didn't jump to me that the logo was related to military. Well are you sure Dean didn't want any object in his object or maskot in his logo? Because I think it could help connect the name with the tough military style...

Honestly, the first thing I thought when I saw the logo (before reading anything) was that it looked like a logo for a political candidate. I think that association is a result of a combination of the font, the color, and having the stripes...

Good start though, I'd like to see how it turns out :)

I instantly thought - WWII??

Don't know if that's good news or bad news for you.

I like the third logo down in the update the best out of all of them.
Design with standards.

I prefer the third and last in the update. Not too sure about the very first design. My first impression was that it said dean wen. not owen.

I like your thinking process, have you concidered using a 'rugged' type of a font? Like an older looking font?

How would the font 'base 02' look with this? Give it a shot, the font works well, it has a lot of edge to it....

I think you achieved the patriotic part without overdoing it and without the colors. I am not quite familiar with US air force symbols and designs either, i am not even from or near the USA, but i still see what the logo is about. Kind of gives me a Pall Mall feeling that has a logo that resembles it a bit.

From the ones you posted i like the second best.
1. I like the bigger star and i don't like it one minute later again, very strange.
2. Minimalistic, but strong.
3. Too empty
4,5,6,7. They all look like some Arabian and African Flags. With the stars and the stripes layout. And that was not what you were looking for.

First thing i thought of was "Top Gun" when i saw it. It really seems like it belongs on a board for some politician. If that's what he wants that's what he gets though.
