I need some input on how to make the splash page more appealing. If you own an online game, feel free to add it to the directory while you're browsing and gathering a perspective on the site. :)

I don't like the splash page at all...it just dosn't flow...seems very thrown together to me, the colors don't really mesh. The site itself is solid though, good layout.
Design with standards.

The splash page is in the process of being redone as a flash intro instead of a static html page. However, I'm not entirely skilled in that area of web-design, so I've been trying to find someone capable of doing something for it. :)

The site itself is for maintaining a list of online games all over the web for easy browsing. Anyone on the web may visit the site, browse through the directory, and find a game they like. Companies looking for larger volumes of traffic on their site may also post adverisement banners there for a small fee. :)

The site itself has only been open to the public for around 3 weeks almost and we currently have just over 35,000 hits. As it stands right now, we're averaging around 2000 - 2400 hits/day and that number is increasing at a constant rate.

Yeah..it's more than I expected the site would get upon opening...I expect the number of hits will double by the end of next month though. :)

hits are much different then page views. "Hits" refers to not only page views, but also how many images have been loaded. If a site is sliced to 20 images, everytime someone visits the site they would actually count as 21 hits (20 images + 1 page).

Actual Visitors & Page Views is how a site should be calculated. What are u using to view the stats?

Yeah, the splash page isn't so good... but good luck with that Flash intro. ;)

The site itself is nice though, I love the placement and colors of the text and pretty much the entire color scheme in general. My only criticism is that the white-blue box around "Announcements" seems severely out of place. In fact, I think you could do without it completely.

Anyway, good work!

I know that. I have a custom counter that counts the number of pages viewed and not the images. I also have a custom counter that keeps track of the number of visitors that visits the site. I hate using the silly tools that come with most webspace maintenance packages.

As it currently stands, there have been roughly 4,500 unique users on the site since it opened, 35,000 page views, well into the 300,000s in terms of "hits"(according to webalizer) which is what you were referring to.

Edit: The custom counters were coded by me and utilize the sql database...but I'll assume that you figured that anyway. Just figured I'd post that for those who don't understand what I meant by custom counter..:p

Also keep in mind that the same values are also shown via webalizer...I just prefer to look at my coded CP instead of logging into the actual site CP..:p

Originally it wasn't there, and it kind of made things look cluttered on that page. I intend to make it a little darker and thinner today unless I remove it completely. I don't know though..it was just soemthing to break up the amount of information displayed all at once.
