Hey everyone,

On my evergrowing list of things to learn - flash websites is at the top. I have been having trouble finding a good tutorial or book on the subject, and I was wondering if anyone who knows how to make flash based websites could take the time to teach me (or point me to a website/person that can).

I know my way around flash, and I know basic actionscript, but I am having trouble incorporating text into a flash based website which can be changed without having to edit the entire file. I would also like to be able to create my portfolio in flash, but have no idea how I would go about updating it.

Anyways, catch me on AIM/MSN if you can help - it would be very much appreciated.

I used to visit www.flashkit.com. There are plenty of tutorials, scripts, animations, etc that i learned from.

E.g. this one is about loading external text file.

I am not very fond of the flashkit tutorials - I find them hard to follow and I get frustrated having to scroll through all the pages (I wish they were all located on one page - its much easier in my ways to read that way). Often times what's taught in the tutorials doesn't actually work either.

well yea as above you can load text from .txt files
really simple too. never bothered to try it though

also what most people dont understand is, now flash sites arent just one big file.
you have your main site and interface. then you have your transistion movie clip. and also you have seperate movies for each page (displaying text)

so.. when the user clicks a link, you use the load movie action script to load the transistion movie then the page. and you do this for all the links.

im sure there is a link at www.kirupa.com

It's a shame you guys feel that way. The best thing you can do is to buy a book, or if you want, there is an amazing video tutorial website at http://www.cartoonsmart.com

This site is worth a check. I would love to teach you guys, but i'm afraid I don't have the time, and the best way for you to learn would be to see it first hand so you can ask questions. I feel the same way about dreamweaver. I can use fireworks for webdesign, but dream weaver seems to screw everything up - the layers shift around when I add text etc. So annoying.

Let me know how http://www.cartoonsmart.com tickles you.

I remember I bought a book regarding flash design and interactivity. I think a few of you have heard about it... It's from the "Flash Bible" series. They have comprehensive step-by-step tutorials and tips... I also have the Lynda.com cd where it REALLY helped me out on various issues i had with flash. Very helpful and visual as well... It's mainly video tutorials with helpful tips and has a great sense of guidance. Good luck penguinboy ;)

PS: i still consider myself a newbie when it comes to flash... but day by day i keep learning new things from the mistakes i make... and believe me, I can't go that much further without using gotoandplay... :p
