A lot of these cards are exhibiting technique rather than ideas, which is a shame - many are impractical or are prohibitively expensive to make. I do love some of the effects though, especially the wax seal:

I agree with Rand. People are too eager trying to stand out of others, ends up making b.card impractically expensive. the main purpose is really to provide contact info.

We're almost in agreement there, I would say that the first function of a business card was to create an impact (for the right reasons, not "that makes my eyes bleed") and then the secondary function to to provide a link of contact.

Somebody want to glory for what they have, first. And then they want to provide contact informations. You can see many people of these kind around.
I think designer must designe what customer wants, not what is correct.

Here are some more interesting business cards I like to take a look at now and then.

I agree the cost would be prohibitive on most of them, but in some cases the design is such that it wouldn't add extra cost but does add extra appeal, and specifically relevance to the service/product that is being provided.

At any rate, I like looking at the various designs because it leads to creative thoughts, and that's a good thing. :-)

As often a first impression 'device', business cards need to promote the main focus of the business, but in a practical way. I love seeing designs which push the traditional limitations of business cards; yet have still clearly been practical with costs, etc.

if the customer can afford the expenses of the design then why should designer care about that??

Some of these are really inspiring. It's great to see people take a chance when designing something that is too often formulaic.

I am really excited right now because I was recently looking up pictures of business cards for ideas and had no luck. I love the dental care card that has teeth impressions!

Some of these are really interesting. I'd like to design creatively like that, but I'm still learning. Do people prefer paper or some other type of material for their business cards?
