Personally, I like the look of the first one. Keep in mind I am trying to attract potential clients, while at the same time creating something easy to update and something that is appealing. I also want to use photos of penguins each with little quotes underneath them (for the various pages).
Comments please on what you think I should go with

I also think that v1 has to small of a content area, maybe if that were larger I would like it a lot better, because its not that bad, thats the only thing that seems to push me away from that one and attract me to v2 because of the large content area in 2.

to me those two just say, basic or amateur because there is nothing different or abstract to it, and is a very common design which doesnt stand out.
dont confuse what im saying with simplicity, as i like the design you currently have because to me it says.
simplicity," i can do abstract and high quality graphic designs but i dont need to show you that. this is my portfolio site. this is what i see most portfolio sites like"
while those are kind of simple but in a low quality way.
sorry this is just my honest opinion, i think the site you have currently is ace and if you want to re-design you should make it even better

Thats quite alright I have to agree myself anyways... I usually design something, get opinions and let it sit for a few days before I work with it. I don't like these anymore - and I have created something better along the lines of my current layout.
Thanks everyone.
