Hey everyone - I hope you all had a great holiday season :)

Anyways, I have finally finished my new portfolio website and thought I would share it with everyone. With a little more free time on my hands, I had decided to bring penguinpedia.com back to its roots - which was to provide help and assistance for new designers. That meant that I had to move my portfolio and design services somewhere else.

Please visit my new website here: http://www.johngilf.com. It is named after me (of course) and the overally layout reflects upon my very simple and minimalistic style.

Anyways, it is still a work in progress, so before I start promoting it and releasing it to potential clients, I would love to hear some general feedback about things that I should change, or things that really make it work.

Also, I don't like how my portfolio pieces open in new windows. If anyone has a suggestion for something better, I would love to hear it.

do a two column thing for the portfolio where you have smaller thumnails on the right, and when clicked on, it simply shows a bigger version on the left column, I believe it can be done in javascript. You can also add a link with the bigger image where they can click on it and go to a new window showing the "live" version if they so choose.

BTW, i like the design, very neat, clean, minimalistic, looks very nice.

The layout is very clean and easy to navigate.

The colors go very well together.

The only problem I can see with it is when I view the source, it begins with...

<head>
<title>John Gilfillan Studios</title>

An <html> tag should be placed at the top. :)

Great job on the layout, and the work in your portfolio is nice. :)

"Design made simple". I like that. It goes directly with the simplicity, yet cleanliness and professional look of your website layout. Every page, even the actual portfolio, is fast loading. Very good!

very clean design, nothing to add really, I would only try two columns just as Ilumina suggested.

Nice design. You have a very good sense of composition, color, and typeuse. I woulod bring the different portfolio menu items closer together and above the fold. Very relaxing on the eye.
Great job!
