I use 1and1 cheap prices and best service ever

You have got to be joking mate!
Didn't you know that when they opened they offered their
professional hosting package free for 3 years? I have that!
So my package is better than yours, and I don't pay!

The service sucks by the way.

I use 1 and 1 and am very satisfied with the service. The uptime is wonderful, I have experienced no timeouts while uploading and uploading is extremely quick IMO. I have only had one issue that I needed "support" for and that one was resolved quickly and to my satisfaction. A key to their free software didn't work. I wrote support and it was fixed almost immediately...
and yes I do have the three years free.

Yeah, they seem alright,
as a FREE host.
But not very good to pay for
as Shawn says there have
been various cases where
they have reported members
the RIAA if they host mp3s
etc.

That special is gone. You say they suck but what sucks about them? You have 1 site with them.....I have over 20 and have a dedicated server with them. Give me a reason they suck? Plus I have used other hosts such as MT, Brinkster and a few others. ALso tried 2a now they suck.

1 site does not make or beak a host IMO. I have clients who run enterprise business applications with them. And I run forums and a bunch of mid to high traffic sites with them. And the support is great and I have experienced no down time on any sites yet. Matter of fact I have not had a complaint in 2+ years. I know this opinion based thread but make educated opinions.

so you did get some free accounts?
If I were you, I would have closed
all of my paying accounts and
switched them to free ones.
It said that over the 3 years,
it would cost like $1000 if you paid
for it.

Couldnt do that.....most of my clients are big clients with e-commerce apps and enterprise level stuff running (plus they already paid me g's to develop and host). And they would rather not suffer downtime during a conversion. Plus I needed the mysql space. Free is not always the better route. But I did sneak in some freebies but I am not using them yet.

I still say that out of all the host I have used 1and1 is the best bang for the buck. peep them out here

I thought that the database handling was pretty crappy, hard to configure,
and you only get like 1.

uuuuh....yeah its a free account...did you think they would give you a full blown account? It is basically a mid grade package and you dont get 24hr support. If you cant figure out theor db configuration you wont be able to figure out anyones.

A good way to measure a host is not to take others word or try their free service but actually run a paid package.

Their managed 'server' plan is basically a big shared hosting account whereby you cant even use your own software nor edit any settings you need...

The guy from Darkscape.net does a really good job running a legit business for really cheap. He's really cool and sets up a lot of stuff for you for a little price. Check it out.

I have to agree with the person who said www.hostrocket.com.

In 6 years of designing and hosting sites, they have been by FAR the best experience I have had, and I turn most of my clients to them for all of their hosting needs.

Have not had one issue in being with them for 2 years + now.

I use godaddy.com as a registar and addr.com, acehosting
I once used lowestcosthost.com because it was so cheap 1GB for $34/year....But I had nothing but problems with them so beware.

As a developer, FQ has some of the best options available for me. Such as their exclusive Secure_Mode (NOT Safe_Mode) PHP enviroment, which gives me all of the security of Safe_Mode being on, but the same development restrictions as Safe_Mode being off.

As well as superb support, awesome uptime, a great community, and much more :)
