I wonder if we could charge contest holders like $5 for unlimited contests, just to make sure they return.
Or would this drive contest holders away???

I know it isn't the best idea and there are lots of holes, but imo something is needed.

What I had in mind was that the small amount of money would encourage the contest holder to come back. Otherwise it would be five bucks(ie) down the drain.

I think a better option, would be having them fill out a form that includes their full name, address, phone number, email, and paypal account before they post a contest.
This way the admins could possibly phone/email the contest holders if there is/was a problem and that way they could shut the contest down if needed.
I dont know... just my ideas. I think something should be done though.

We are not insisting on it, there are not that many contests, so we are just giving an option to the contest holders to make their contests guaranteed by designcontest.com which means:
1.we will hold the prize until the winner is chosen
2.there should be a set end date for the contest. In case the contest holder disappears (which happens all the time with plain contests), the community will vote to choose the winner.
3.the winner HAS to be chosen even if the contest holder doesn't disappear.
4.the contest can be extended only to the specified limit.
this is the idea put in a few words. I be would very much interested to know what you think about it.

I think if someone is paying $100 for a logo and they don't see any that they like they shouldn't _have_ to pick one, but there should be some sort of reward for people atleast trying.

Do we really want clients that can't invest $5-$20 to start a contest? If a client thinks $5 is too much to see 20-30 designs then he is a window shopper (just looking, not buying)
Seriously, if you really need a logo... you won't mind spending $20 to get it started. (The $20 would be given to top designer if no logo was chosen)
Designers what would you rather have:
#1= 1 new logo contest per week with a client that has put down a deposit (I would think that makes him more likely to pick a design, gives a minimum of $20 prize money)
#2= 2 contests per week with clients that have put no deposit down.
I vote #1 :-)

might not work well with hosting prizes but its good for ones with $ on the line

Actually, that has already happened, although there has not really been any announcements indicating it.

I also think maybe having a seperate area for a shopper to purchase a thread for X amount of dollars and that only designers that have won a certain amount of prizes in past can post.
would help this site as well as guarantee successful contests! for some at least.
just a thought
