Update: Most of the intro is now done (still looking for some sound fx) its now part of the coming soon page so check it out on www.flavabox.com

Am making a flash intro for my site. Heres the unfinshed version I'd like you to comment with suggestions. The tunnel bit isn't finnshed there will be words tubling down it soon, also will have the intro pointing at site at the end. What do you think? What parts need to be changed or redone?

Update: Heres the intro almost done

Again if you have any comments please feel free to post.

Update: Its almost done, can you check the preloader for me. Am having trouble with the sound and music any suggestions? I thinking that i might leave it mute.

Thats interesting... I am not sure about when the whole thing goes orange maybe have something leading up to that a little more. It just seems IMO to be kinda outta place at the moment but over all its great looking.

Flavabox -

I think it's pretty good. I like the way you handled the exploding effect in the beginning with your name. If you want it picked apart, I think the shadow on the box in the beginning is off perspective-wise. It just looks a little odd, but that could just be me, too ;) The only part that I think doesn't flow very well is after you exit the "tunnel" - I think that your name might need to zoom in quicker - there seems to be too much of a lag between the tunnel end and where your name appears. Obviously i'm not a flash-guru, so just suggestions :)

Conceptually, I like it though. Would be nice to see it when you're finished with everything you said you were still going to add to it.

Thx for feedback jlinds72 and Waterlogged. Am going to work on the areas you have highlighted.

Please can everyone leave comments on the intro. Comment on the bad or off areas that you think need improving. It’s important for me to get this looking just right.

Hi flavabox,
The intro is pretty impressive.
The 3d type effects are nice too. It will definitely impress quite a few people. I liked the tunnel effect in the O & maybe U mite need to add something other than the logo after the tunnel ends . A bit of music would be cool too.
I'm not sure, but a colorful background would be attractive. But the white background doesn't look bad at all.
I'd give U a rating of 8 out of 10. Music would definitely make it 9! :D

Hi, man:

Very nice intro. Try not to give too much white spaces. You can fill them with sound fxs or anything else. In the tunnel try to give it more dynamism adding more structures or a texture to the walls.

But the core is pretty cool.

Go on with the nice work !!!

Good luck !!!

This is very cool. I really like the 3d. It needs something more to it though. Maybe some more effects. Maybe add a little video or some text and just simple flashy effects. And like the others said, some cool music would really make it stand out. maybe some background graphics with some motion blurs, etc might look cool to. An intro really needs to convay what the site is about, and right now it is really just some cool 3d. PM me if you change it up at all.. great start!

Overall it's really nice. I like it alot.
Here's some nit-picking and suggestions if it will help ya out though:

You know how you've got a shadow under the box at the beginning? I would suggest you consider trying to continue that idea to some degree, especially with the tumbling text. By the way, I think the shadow under the box is probably too dark. Usually you want to turn the alpha down below 30% when casting a shadow on a light-colored background. (If you can spare the resouces, make it even lighter when it's higher off the "ground".)

Also the tumbling text needs more tension and release, the basic principle behind any animation. Maybe slow each one down as it gets to the point where the text is close but not on its way off the screen (and, ideally, at a point when the text is oriented to be read). Then return it to it's original speed for its grand exit. Remember tension and release.

Also right before you enter the tunnel, the logo looks too yellow. And some of the tumbling text has spots that are a little too yellow as well (but the tunnel around it might change that perception). Maybe try a yellow that's a little more on the gold side -- like in the logo at the end.

If you want to try some simple lighting effects for outside of the tunnel (like for on your logo before the tunnel), try making a rectangle the width of your movie but not very high, with no outline. Make the fill a 3-color linear gradient -- all 3 colors white. Make the center white an alpha of about 40% (come back later and adjust that as needed) and make the whites on the outsides of the gradient have an alpha of 0%. You want these bands to run horizontally so rotate the gradient 90 deg with the Fill Transform Tool and then make sure you rescale the gradient to match the height of the rectangle. Place it on a layer above your logo somewhere where the logo will pass under it. Then adjust the height and maybe the angle of the rectangle. You can also do something similiar with circles and a 2-color radial gradient, (center white 40% alpha, edge white 0% alpha). Some of those moving through the tunnel might be cool. And perhaps some of them fading in and out over you logo at the end, once you've added the "enter site" feature.

Last but not least, (I know you were probably going to do this anyway) but the preloader is too plain. Your intro animation is not the first impression you make on your audience, the preloader is. Obviously a preloader needs to be simple for practical reasons, but it should still make a good impression.

Well, that's just my lame opinion. You've done a really nice job on it so far. And, again, I'm just nit-picking.

Hey AMP

Wow, thx for taking your time to give me all that feedback!
The preloader is a tempoary thing am thinking of making a wireframe cube that fills up as the movie loads. Am gonna try your lighting effect and am gonna change the lighting a bit so the colours look right. Oh yea tention and release, check.

Hi Flavabox =), sorry for not answering before but I was in bed with flue =P.

I saw your intro, is really cool!.
Im not very good at intros yet, but I have one sugestion: at the tunnel part, maybe if you add another element (like the lines you already have) passing the way the lines do, but at a different speed (faster) it will make it more dynamic... what do you think?. Hope this helps =D. Can´t wait to see your new site!

PS, sorry about my english, but my main language is spanish.

Take care and suerte!

I really like the improvements that you've made to it! The text made a huge improvement to the tunnel effect, and overall I think it's impressive. Just needs some audio:)

Pretty cool improvements, man.

Don't worry about the remaining white space. Every design needs some space to let the viewer breath and not be shocked on crashing colors and dynamism.

Well done, man.

Take care,
Will

Just took a look at your intro...sweet effect in the beginning with the explosion...I do like the why the tunnel effect starts as it enters the letter...however I find the lines a little bizarre...Have you thought about maybe filling the tunnel with text in a circular effect, I get the impression of a tunnerl however the lines are out of place, it needs something to take the shape of the cylinder...you know what I mean.....I am not really sure how to explain things...but maybe I can create a visual...I will check back with this...Overall...looking forward to seeing the site...Later

Hey Flavabox -

The preloader works fine for me. I would definitely think about adding some audio - there's too many places in the intro that would be highlighted by at least sound fx, if not an audio loop. Check out flashkit.com & see what you can find - there's just about any sound effects that you would need - most are freeware, some linkware, shareware, etc...just see what the author wants from it. The tunnel definitely needs some sort of audio if nothing else.

Happy V-Day!
