TicketSource

This was my first time using DesignContest - or ANY design crowdsourcing site for that matter - and it was an extremely positive experience. The interface really helps keep correspondence with the designers organised. My only suggestion to improve the experience would be the ability to attach image files to individual comments in order better facilitate conversations about colours, composition etc. I'm sure I'll be using DesignContest again soon.

Project description

We are about to update our website.  The homepage layout we plan to implement includes 12 icons representing different features and benefits of the system, and those 12 icons are what we are looking to have illustrated.  The uploaded (very rough) visual includes rough content for these icons, that I have cobbled together from stock pictograms.  Along with the accompanying 3 line blurbs, these roughs should give an indication of the concepts we want each icon to convey, but please ask if anything is unclear.

If you want to do a couple of samples for me to feed back on before spending time on the full set, I will endeavour to get back to you as quickly as possible.  (I'm currently in UK time zone).

The rough images attached are intended to give an idea of content to represent the functions and concepts, not to direct style or constrain composition.  I have used floating elements on a white background, but if you prefer to work with a partial frame that is fine too.  (I don't think we would go for a fully boxed icon however).

We would like the illustrative style to have some 'personality' as opposed to generic software vector icon style, but still be simple and clean enough that the content reads clearly at small scale.

Certain elements, such as the seating plans, audience types, screenshots on devices etc have an unavoidable complexity in their content so we would like to compensate for that by keeping the finish or rendering simple and smooth.  We would like a 3D finish but with a smooth CGI style planar / airbrush texture overall.  Nothing cartoony or with a pastels or painterly texture

In terns of colours... we would like to stick to the charcoal grey / blue / purple palette that you'll see in the background of the header photo images in the rough homepage layout uploaded (…the ones where there is stage lighting in the background).  The logo oranges and white can be used as a highlight colour where necessary.    What I hope for is charcoal grey to be dominant structural "drawing" or base.  But where you want to use a bit more colour in the mid-tones with perhaps use shades of cerulean /indigo /lavender as flashes and hints.

Where there are features within the content of the image to be highlighted then the logo orange/white should provide that function.
