Project description

**REVISED DESCRIPTION AS OF 8/12/13** HOPCA Brewing Co. is a local, fresh and innovative brewery from San Luis Obispo, California - we are young and groundbreaking and want our labels to grab attention and appetites for excellent craft beer. Like our beer, we want our label to be COMPLEX, interesting and attention-grabbing. DO NOT BRING US MONOCHROMATIC LOOKS, PLEASE. Think about standing out on the California Coast, hop plants everywhere and being a brewing bad-ass - because that's what we're all about...but we still want your mom to try our beers, too (so no skulls, please). What we don't want is a re-creation of the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. label. Banners with movement, color and unique (but still read-able) text is cool with us, as long as we've never seen it anywhere before. What we do want is a hop in the image - get creative. It could be included in the name, it could be the outline it could be something we're not smart enough to think of and a little tribute to California would make us pretty happy, too. Green and gold need to be included, but the rest is up to you - no Christmas tree red and green combos, please.

  • We like the color scheme, however, it looks too similar to the Green Flash Brewing logo (the sun rays). Would like the image to be a bit more complex. Looking for at least one hop in the mix.
    • I'm glad you like the colors! I took the overall design and reconfigured it for designs #6 and #7. I wasn't exactly sure what you meant by "more complex," so if these still aren't complex enough, feel free to suggest additional elements you'd like to see. Feedback on the fonts, the landscape concept, etc. are also of course welcome! Thanks for the rating and comments. —schwede9

  • We like the concept, however, it is a bit to minimalistic. Can you add some color and incorporate at least one hop? Or place the entire logo within a hop cone?
  • Dear CH, Pls check my design entry #22 & #23. I hope you like it. Thank you! Best Regards!
  • The brief has been revised. We've made some more specific requests in order to obtain what we're really looking for - please inquire if you have any questions.
  • We really like that you included the California Bear and the hop cone but it is much too close to a label for another brewing company. http://bearrepublic.com/

      |--| whoops, thanks for the feedback and heads up. I tweak some stuff and get back to you. thanks

  • Thank you for rounding out the hop and changing the banner colors up! We do prefer the banner being on the bottom, and we have 2 more requests: 1. Is there any way to show a font for HOPCA somewhere "between" the first font and this? We liked the first font, we just felt it was a little too "flamed" out on the accent points for the H & A... So if you could soften the points on the first font that would be great. 2. Can you add an outline of the state of California behind the design? Thinking a thin outline the color of the light gold in the banner.
    • Thanks again for the feedback CH, let me rework on this. Thanks for the direction. Best Regards!

    • Hi CH, Pls check my design entry #50, Im trying to incorporate the Colors of California into this design concept, the red, green and brown. the single star on top of this design is something to incorporate the State of California into the concept. I hope you like it.

  • Thanks for incorporating a HOP into the mix, as it is it kind of looks like an acorn.. As far as the mountain goes, maybe base more off of our local mountain "Bishops Peak" or make is a coastal scene (cliffs and ocean).
    • I made the mountain resemble Bishop's Peak more closely and added hops to the bottom of the logo in design #38. Please let me know what other changes or ideas you have, and thanks for the feedback.

  • Nice bright color scheme, we are trying to stay away from having beer glasses, bottles, or kegs in the logo.
    • Sure. Will work on the same. Thanks for your feedback....

  • Thank you for incorporating California into the logo, we do like that it is bright. We do think that the leafs take away from the hop (even though the leaves form another hop which is neat!) and we are not sure about the use of the bear, as far as beer logos the Bear Republic Brewing logo immediately comes to mind when we see the bear from our state flag, and it may be difficult to create a logo with that bear that wouldn't be like Bear Republic...However we could be proven wrong.
  • Enjoy the different take on the hops, the logo just seems a little too traditional for what we are going for. The green emblem with black banner and white lettering just reminds us of Heineken too much. Thank you for the entry!
  • Don't know about the Bear above the bell...
  • A little too traditional, and like the other, trying to stay away from glasses.
  • Two requests: 1. Can you change the HOPCA font? The edges are just a little too flared or psychedelic 2.Can you make the hop flowers curl under a bit, rather than outwards? We would like it to be a bit more round. Really like the color scheme!
    • Thanks for the great feedback CH, too bad you dint like the font, it was custom made originally for you. But let me work on that. Are you leaning towards a more simple fonts?

      |--| Dear CH, Pls check my new submissions, design entry #29,#28 and #32. I hope youll like it. Thank you! Cheers!

  • Please capitalize HOPCA, cursive font is a bit too "fancy" but really like the gold outline with red font and like the green graphics. Really like the color balance but would like some more elements of California.
    • Thanks for your comments. Will work on the chnages.

  • Like the color scheme and the sunbursts. Can you lighten the background red on the banner...more contrast needed (same for the black background). Also, we would like to see the same changes on this image that we suggested for the black background. Thanks!
  • We really appreciate this design and the use of color. We would like something a bit less "traditional" and more eye-catching. Also, not sure about the barrel because it might be confused with wine.
    • Thank you for the feedback. I will do my best to give you the design you want.

  • I like the black font for the basis of the image so let's work from that image. Let's focus on blues, greens and golds with touches of red.
  • Can you incorporate a light green into this with some element of California? Or could you make the bell a hop with vines around the sides? Maybe with sunburst in the background? I think this one has great potential but color balance is important.
  • Need more graphic/scenery and the feeling of a beer company.
  • Like the hops a lot, border is too "traditional" and maybe change background pattern and HOPCA fonts?
