Logo for photographer

I was overwhelmed by the great designs, but underwhelmed by the site's ability to sort and manage the contenders. In the end, I got a great logo.

Project description

Just moved my studio and doing a lot more photography work. It's time to rethink the business from the logo up! Need a new logo that will be used on biz cards (need biz cards and web site too) and will also be used to watermark on-line images. The winning design will probably make bold and clever use of typeography -- simple, clean, and perhaps a swiss feel. Needs the words Ron Hiner Photography in there. The word photography is the least important. Should be distinctive, bold and clearly readable. Maybe (or maybe not) should include web site url www.ronhiner.com. My photography work is in multiple directions -- high end portraits, model portfolios, and glam women shots is one category, I also shoot a lot of sports, and increasingly being used for commercial editorial work. I don't shoot weddings, though I might one day. Be creative! Have fun! I'm blown away by the quantity and quality of entries here. I can't comment on all of them indivually, but, I'm ruling out virtually all logo designs that have uber mondern (star trek) fonts, as well as anything with a backward R, or is other wise difficult to read. Readability is key. don't use a difficult to read font. Thanks to all for the entries! Mockups ARE allowed! You may use the sample image I uploaded, or one of your own choosing. If you use my image to show a watermark, be sure to show how the logo would look by itself. It will also be used in print and on my web site. The new website in design right now will have a decidedly swiss design feel. Here is a pretty good explanation of swiss design for those of you are not familiar with the concept. http://kubawolf.hubpages.com/hub/Swiss-Graphic-Design The winner of this contest will mostly likely have a swiss look.

  • Hi CH, This is my first entry #36 , Please let me know what you think, thanks. Best regards.
  • clever, I like the concept, but don't like either font choice. Think swiss. Times roman is a huge miss.
  • clever! I like the concept.. but the eye looks angry or perhaps doubting. How to make it welcoming?
  • thanks for your entry.. but it took me too long to figure out your illustration. This is all about typography. Think Swiss Design. Be bold!
  • Thanks for your entry. Turning 'ron' into a camera is clever! I'm not loving the font choice. Another try?
  • thanks for the entry. Interesting.. I don't think it will scale up and down well. Not sure how to tie any signifcance to the colored blocks.
  • Well, ok. better, but the illustration is of a focus screen of a film camera. How does that sell images? I think the logo is all about typography. BTW, you are the only entry that looks like it was from someone who understand's the notion of swiss design. Thanks for that!
  • Thanks for the fast response! Clever type.. illustration doesn't do much, and it's not scalable -- it just turns grey when it gets small.
  • Thanks for the fast response! Clever... looks like a cowboy ranch brand!
    • Thank You! Please score the design on the rating scale 0 to 100. I am allowed to enter 2 more designs. I can continue working on this concept or take it in another direction.

    • Might be good for another project I have in mind, but not this one. Ranch brand is not where I want to go. Think Swiss Design. Google it.

      |--| My bad! When you said "Swiss Design", I was thinking of the "swatch" logo! I will start over.

      |--| think Apple... every thing about their typography is swiss design. So too is Swatch.com. Elegant in its simplicity - thats what defines swiss design

    • I think #28 is what you are after: a distinctive word-mark, (NOT A FONT!). This is 100% original custom "hand-made" typographic.

  • Thanks for the quick response! I appreciate your effort. I'm thinking more of a swiss design style -- no script type. powerful yet elegant.
  • Please do not use a mock up unless it is required by client.
  • Hello CH, I have submitted #189 for your consideration. Thanks!
  • Hi CH, pls check the entry numbr #183...hope you like it...
    • I like the concept, but the notion of lighter grey for some words isn't going to translate well to watermarks. worth another try?
