Logo Redesign

This was a great process. There were many designers that submitted entries and we were very happy with the results. In the end it was difficult to make a decision as there were so many great choices. But we have a clear winner and are happy with our new brand.

Project description

We are looking for a redesign of our existing logo. Please find details of our company Bowyer Financial at www.bowyerfinancial.com. We would like a more professional, modern and maybe 3D look and feel. Colors - Black, White, Grey and the manulife securities green. What we like about our current logo: Font style is elegant, the lion is from the Bowyer Family Crest. What we don't like: The lion is graphically too complex, it makes it hard to apply this image to various print media and embroidery. We are also open to a logo that does not have the lion if it really speaks to our company. Definitely looking for: If we continue to use a lion, we would like to simplify and redesign the lion. Currently the logo is very 2D. We would like to see more of a 3D image.

      |--| Thank you for your submissions. I'm not sure I am a big fan of the font, though its interesting. It may grow on me. The lion looks to bland, and I am looking for a redesign of it. Also with the 3D feel I am looking for, I am expecting more than just an extrusion. It has to have depth and look more lion/like, not just a silhouette. Thanks!

    • All right. Could you please tell me would you like it to stay at same position (standing on 2 legs) or can it be also in different position?

    • I hadn't thought of that. I have no idea how hard it is to provide some samples, but my initial thought is lets see some different positions. The reason it is the way it is right now is because it is an extract off the Bowyer family Crest. I definitely would like to keep it more elegant vs animated.

    • My suggestion would be to keep it same shape/position as current one (extract off the Bowyer family Crest). If you are already recognized with current one, total change would (perhaps) make bad impact. I would suggest only modernizing current logo.

    • That makes sense. Lets see where we get with that.

    • Cool. I will start working on new version of the logo.

    • regarding #5, The font is a bit better in this one but still not ideal. I still like our original font by comparison. The other thing that just occurred to me is that I think I may want more of an integrated design between the lion and the text.

    • I will try to find same font that you have used on your design. I can try with some medievel/gothic fonts (they should be in style of lion).

    • I wasn't necessarily looking for the "same" as much as I was just giving you a comparison.

    • I have submitted version with similar font to your original #7. Will take a look for few more that are good combo with lion picto.

      |--| #7 & 8 look a wee bit better but still not what we are looking for. Your still using the overall lion design we had and your version is not much of a variant from what we already had. I need something new and fresh.

      |--| #30 and #32 don't work for us. I like what you did with #31 but again the lion doesn't look right. Something about the face is very off. Thank you for your effort.

    • Hi CH, Cool. I will go different way, without lion incorporated in logo. Will focus on your business profile. Best, Pix

      |--| #39 & #40 - We really like this fresh new approach. We appreciate the creativity and the fact that you have read our business profile. Not sure how we feel about the graphic but it may grow on us. If you have some more ideas we'd love to see them. But great job!

  • About #1 & #2 Hi CH, please check my concept..I hope you like it,any changes u want is acceptable...

      |--| I have consulted with my business partner and his impression is a lot higher on this submission then mine was. He likes the use of a shield, however perhaps it can be a little more elegant. The lion is a re-use of our old lion so it needs to be reworked as per my other comments on this brief. He really likes what you have done with the font and how clean and simple this looks. Lets see if you can rework this a bit and see what you come up with. Thanks.

    • Hi CH good day, thanks for the feedback about my entry #12 i really appreciate it..I'm make some changes with the design as u requested on the brief i reworked on the element and I hope you like it....#28 & #29 Im looking forward for the feedback thanks and feel free to ask changes so that i can make it a fast as i can..God bless!!! Sincerely watz,

      |--| I like these both. I will rate them at 45 for now and have my business partner look at them. I would like to see some other ideas too. Thank you for your efforts

  • Hey CH, Please take a glance at my design #9. I hope it is fitting to what you are looking for. Let me know your feedback and any changes you may want to see. Thanks

      |--| Thank you for your entry, I think that your design is nice and clean, I would like to see some more samples of fonts, and more of an integration of the lion into the text. Almost like the lion morphs into one of the letters perhaps. A little more creativity please but so far this design is nice and clean. Also I would like to see the lion perhaps in a bit of a different position or angle.

    • Thanks for your feedback. I uploaded a new concept #17 I used some different fonts, cleaned up the image of the lion and integrated the lion to the text. I rotated the lion a tiny bit. I also did two different color versions so you could decide which appeals to your company better. I prefer the green globe because it gives the image a little more character. Please let me know your feedback. thanks

  • #14-16 I am not sure if I like this lion, but great creativity with what you were thinking. Regardless there is something about they way the mouth looks that doesn't sit right.
  • #13 - I like the lion. Can you see about integrating the font into the graphic? Try some different fonts. I am leaning to something more calligraphic over block lettering. Also lets play with some colors and depth. I also like the silver more than the darker grey. But use the colors in a way to create depth. Great job so far though.
    • Thanks for the Feedback I will get right to it Best Regards

  • Designers - So far I am seeing a common element that I am not liking... The green is being used too much as a dominant colour. I am thinking it needs to be more of an accent. Grey, silver, white or blacks need to be more primary. The green should be used to give the design depth but not as a fill for a background etc. Also: our motto is "Strong, Reliable, Trustworthy, Forward-thinking" So I want the logo to represent that. I want the elegance of an old world trusted institution that has years of experience behind it representing integrity, but simple and bold to imply that we are current with modern times. So far I am steering away from separate logo and text, and I am leaning more towards an integrated graphic where the logo (lion or other graphic) is morphed into the font somehow. Just an example would be if the lion formed part of the "B" with Bowyer financial, or he was holding it, or supporting it or something. It doesn't have to be in the front, it can be in the middle somehow too... or maybe he supports the font from underneath somehow. I am just brainstorming here but keep the ideas coming. Thanks everyone.
  • #11 and #12 still are not what we are looking in that I want something new and fresh, and not using our old lion, however i do think #12 is nice and clean and simple. But it still does not grab my attention the way I want.
  • #10 - I really like that you have taken my instruction and created a new version of the lion. So far I am impressed most with this. I am not a huge fan of the look so far, font is wrong, the lion needs work, but so far you get the most points for thinking outside the box with your creativity.
  • Could you please add a vector art or photoshop file for the lion its self?
    • I am very amateur, and created this in photoshop. I do not have a vector drawing. I have uploaded my PSD file for our old logo and I am also uploaded the lion as a separate PSD. Hopefully this will help. This is part of the reason I want this redesigned - I would love to have a wireframe of this in some fashion.

    • I figured you would have something like that. Thanks, those should be good to start getting something together.

  • The green I have selected may not be the exact green I am looking for. The website www.manulife.com will have the green I am looking for.
  • About #23, #24, #25 & #26 Hi CH, here's my new concept please check it..I hope you like it changes is acceptable... watz

      |--| #28 & #24 look great. I will leave my rating set at 45 for now. I may increase them later depending on other designs I see. I am looking for some other creative ideas too.

    • Please take a look with this CH #53 & #54...I hope you like it..Thanks for rating my work....By the way CH about my lion graphic what could you say???

    • #52, #53, #54 - We really like the shield, and the font. The I really like the way you used the colors on the shield. To answer your question about the lion, while we think it is a very good lion, I don't think its position/stance is right to represent our brand. Thank you for your entry

      |--| Your entries have been eliminated. The lion you have been using are an exact duplicate of the MGM Grand Lion with the exception of the rear inner leg, which appears to have been duplicated from the rear outer leg. I want original artwork.

  • Hey CH, I posted an updated version of my last design with a cleaner font, #27 please let me know your feedback on this, thank you for your time. Steven

      |--| #27 the font looks a bit better but the focus on the oversized "O" doesn't look right, and I am just not feeling the lion graphic. Lets try something else. Get creative. Thank you for your effort

  • Dear CH, I just submitted #21, any feedback would be gladly appreciated, thank you in advance. Best Regards, Diana

      |--| We really like the lion graphic, the font is clean but a bit too simple. This logo is missing something. We aren't sure what but perhaps you can spice this up a bit. Thank you for your entry

    • Thank you so much for your feedback I do appreciated it. I just submitted #33 and #34 I add a bit more effects and changed the font for submission #33. Regards, Diana Best Regards, Diana

      |--| #33 doesn't really work for us but #34 looks great. This is a possible contender. I am leaving ratings on this at 50 for now and may increase them depending on other designs I see. I would love to see some other ideas and suggestions of what you see our brand to look like. Thank you for your efforts.

  • Designers - I will comment on each entry, and I thank you for all your entries. But it seems that I am getting too much focus on using the lion. While I do want to see some ideas with the lion which you have all been working with, I would like to see some ideas WITHOUT the lion. Lets get creative here. I am expecting a wide variety to give me some new vision. In the end I will dial it in on the right look and feel. But lets get creative please. Please look at our website, get an idea of what we are about. Ask questions if you need to. There is only 3 days left in this contest and I have not seen very much imagination. Thank you all for your participation and efforts.
  • Hello CH I have Submitted #35. I kept with your original lion and gave it an updated look. Including the font a fresh look yet still elegant. Let me know what you think, am I on the right track? Thanks.

      |--| Thank you for your entry. Unfortunately no you are not on the right track. We want an updated design for the lion. The font is nice but without the correct graphic, it is hard to evaluate. I am looking for much more creativity. Thank you.

  • #18 - I think it is interesting how you morphed the tail into the text however both the lion is the same as our old one and this needs to be redesigned and the font you used did not work for us. Thank you for your entry.
  • #19 - We would like to see some other options for the font since this looks like the same font we already have. We aren't sure if we want to keep using this same font. #20 - I like how you created this lion however there is something about the look of it that doesn't work for us. WE are torn, one of us likes how you incorporated the graphic into the font, the other does not. Perhaps we can see some more variations of these two entries. Thank you for your entries.
  • Hello ch I have posted #22 with three different styles for you to pick from, any feedback would be appreciated thank you

      |--| We really like what you did with the lion however I think that it might be too complex/detailed for any embroidery or stamp dyes. We are also not so sure that we are wanting just a lion head, but more the whole lion. We are open to not even using a lion if there were some other graphic that the designer felt represented our firm. Thank you for your entry.

  • These lions are clipart. I have found them online. I want original artwork. These entries have been eliminated.
    • these are vector not clip art but sure not a problem

nearly every entry within the contest are clip art these are vector not clip art but sure not a problem
      |--| was there a style that you had like without the vectorise clipart that i had drawn around with pen tool

    • I think my point is that you did not create these lion's as original design. I am not sure why you are submitting an entry that is not your own work. To answer your second question I am not sure what I like pertaining to those designs as they would not be anything we will consider given the fact that the graphics are not original. Sorry I can not be more helpful.

    • thats fine and appreciate the feedback but in order to recreate a 3d design stated within the brief will take time hence why i had drawn around those images most designs use silhouettes and you will find a number of them online there are few designs on here that you have marked as high being clipart that have been vectorised or live traced not meaning to be disrespectful at all cody but it was only a mock up to see which style you was looking for that i had stated

    • I apologize then I did not understand what your definition of mock up meant. I assumed that the graphics being used would be your own. But this makes sense now that you have explained it. I will re-evaluate your design mockup and make a comment in a bit

    • |--|

      |--| a simple misunderstanding its fine i will continue with design that you were looking for but will take time in order to produce a 3d design of a lion and shield to the way that i would want it a professional standard

    • I look forward to it.

  • With the understanding that these graphics are just mockup-placement, The only one that we gravitate to is the bottom left. But generally speaking on the designs that we have really liked so far with this contest are the integrated graphic/font. I guess without seeing what you are capable of I can't comment any further. Cheers.
