Project description

SILLY STRING, an iconic toy brand for more than 40 years, is about to be refreshed. For the last 20 or more years, the SILLY STRING brand has not been given much attention from a marketing standpoint. So it is long overdue for a new, fresh look. Despite this lack of marketing attention, SILLY STRING’s brand recognition among consumers is very strong. It is the "Kleenex" or "Xerox" of the category. More information on the current SILLY STRING logo can be found at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Silly-String/382872095109641. SILLY STRING is marketed to two distinct audiences/segments – children ages 5 and up in the toys/games category, and teens/adults as a party/novelty product. We are looking to reflect the new energy being put into the brand with a dramatically improved logo. This logo should work equally well for both audiences/segments. However, if one segment needs to be prioritized in the design, it should be the children at play segment. The logo should convey everything that SILLY STRING represents, such as FUN, PLAY, LAUGHTER, FAMILY, CELEBRATION, MISCHIEF, SILLYNESS, etc. It should be easily readable on a standard can (144 mm circumference, 46 mm width, 130 mm height), meaning that it will probably work better if it is at least as tall as it is wide. And it should work equally well on packaging, in brochures and online. Easy readability on the can – from a distance – is the number one priority so that consumers can easily spot it as they shop. Beyond that, it should simply convey the personality of the product. The logo may or may not need a graphic component that could work with or without the product name. As children tend to respond to bright colors, it may be beneficial to look at using a variety of bright colors in the logo, though such a design should also translate to B&W. A custom font may be worth considering. Additionally, when the logo is used on the can, on point-of-sale displays, or for other marketing purposes, it will need to be supported with the generic description “spray streamer”. So this should be considered as well. With that said, the words “spray streamer” do not need to be part of the logo itself.
