New Logo for Grace School of Theology

Design Contest presented us with a wonderful and creative process for developing a new logo. I love how we were able to interact with the many designers during the process and provide input on the direction the designs were moving in.

Project description

We are looking for a new logo for Grace School of Theology. We are a Christian seminary with a strong emphasis on God's FREE gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. We really want to avoid a cliché design that simply would blend in with the vast amount of Christian institutions. Probably not interested in crosses, bibles and various academic shields, but don't let this put you off if you have a really creative idea. We are open to being convinced. We are very open to open to creative suggestions but concepts we are curious about include: - Living Water (John 7:37-39) - We have played with the idea of incorporating ancient nails (not talking about modern flatheads). - Something that conveys our goal to grow on a Global level internationally. We are looking for a fresh and modern look that still conveys a professional impression of us being a serious academic higher education school. I love clean and minimalistic designs that doesn't add bells and whistles for no reason. See gsot.edu for older logo, ideas of color scheme and the overall current visual impression.

  • I would say this has a cleaner and more polished feel to it than your #5. Heading in the right direction. But what I assume is a symbol of a Bible looks a little bit like a mustache when placed in this way. Adding a Bible to the logo in general feels a bit cliché I think. Although your way of designing it a bit differently may possibly have some potential.
    • New upload more towards ABI style.. Thanks for all the feedback

      |--| I think what I liked about the ABI design was the more minimalist and polished look. What parts of the ABI style were you trying to incorporate?

    • Same feel but with lines to represent water and font concept.. I try et back later on today.. Thanks

  • I love the look and feel of this design! Makes me wonder what more one could do to make the "G" more pronounced without ruining the natural feel or shape of the water. I think this is the most interesting entry yet.
    • I submitted #38, which is more polished and fine tuned.

  • Hello CH, is there anything I can do more to #6 that could improve to what you would like?
  • #5 isn't too bad. It isn't polished or clean enough yet. Probably also skip whatever that little shape is on the "road". I think you have done some work before that looks pretty good when I browse through your previous entries. Your 22 and 60 for "Airport by Invitation" was a style I liked.
  • There was an entry just added and then removed that looked really interesting after #4 and before the current #5. Not sure why this was removed but I would love to see it again.
  • #4 still doesn't convey a professional and polished feel. Think something that could represent a serious university while still keeping a fresh and modern "edginess" to it.
  • #1) Think the concept is good with the nails. However, this feels much more like a church logo to me than an academic institution. Also worry about how this would translate in one color and you are locked into only horizontal use. I would want to increase the size of School of Theology. It's very small, virtually illegible at such a small size. But overall, this seems to be the most polished logo. Not a huge fan of the yellow color. #2) Again, the icon feels a lot more like a church/ministry that an academic institution. Also, not sure how well this would translate in one color since there are so many gradients involved. The icon is also much larger than the type. Not a fan of the Grace font. #3) The existing format looks a little cartoonish more than polished. Not crazy about the existing font or the hyperlink blue color. May possibly have potential though as a concept. Again, one of the points here is to get NEW ideas, so don't feel restricted to incorporate my example themes such as nails, globes etc. Get creative :)
  • I think I kind of like it. The yellow color is definitely not something we have tried before but I'm not sure that I like it. We typically didn't want to restrict out of the box thinking by suggesting an exclusive color scheme, but I wonder what this would look like with navy blue / white / black colors. See our website for what colors we have tended to use before. www.gsot.edu
    • Hi mgoteman. Actually i did not want to use "yellow" but this color would have tended to simulate the rust of ancient nails. No problems, anyway. I'll try to use another color palette to better satisfy your needs :) See you later

  • Hello CH, can you please check out my design #3. Please leave me some feedback for improvements.
    • Thanks for your time and entry. #3 has a bit too much of a "cartoonish" touch to it. The look doesn't feel serious enough. I also don't think it's very clear what the picture is supposed to be saying. I think it's a nail that the globe is behind. Doesn't strike me as the most natural combination.

  • I changed the colours. And I have tried one new version: #122 , #125 , #126, #127. Thanks for feedback.

  • Hi, Thanks for your appreciation about entry 76. Need suggestions to improve it more. Please provide it to me. Regards...
  • We really like your logo. Here are a few suggestions: 1) I would like to see if you could make the "school of theology" text bigger in a tasteful way. 2) We're also curious if the logo would work to the left and under the text (feel free to add multiple versions). 3) I would like to see an alternative version that we could use when we need to put the logo on a black background.

      |--| Thank you for the feedback. I really appreciate it.:) With entries #96, #97, #98, and #99, I did some changes to the "SCHOOL OF THEOLOGY" text. I increase the size a little bit and used a different font. A much thicker font from my previous entries. I also did a version with the logo beside the text. If you have any question or any suggestion, feel free ask. Again, Thank you.

  • Same thing here as #75: We like the Logo but not the gap between the R and A in "Grace" Also, I would like to see the G in a color that more clearly makes people think of water. Maybe a little bit closer to the #75 color. Again, we LIKE both these designs so if you make major changes, make them in versions so that we can choose between options.
  • I like the modern and fresh look of your look. I do not like the A without the line for our logo, and we need a more easy to read (but still elegant) "school of theology"
    • Updated it with my entry #93. Thanks for your feedbacks. :)

  • We were talking your design over as a team and some of us felt that it looks more like paint than water. We like the design so don't alter it too much (maybe create versions if you alter it). I suggest that you go with a slightly lighter blue that has more of a water look. #34 has more of a water color to it. But also feel free to come up with other ideas to convince people this is not paint :)
    • I changed the colours. And I tried one new version: #122, #125, #126, #127.

  • Not liking the "dot"-A. It's cool but not for us in the context. We also don't like the drop at the top of the G
  • Right direction, just a tad too far. I think it would look better right in between this one and #26. The bend inwards on the bottom turns a little bit too sharply to have a natural water drop look to it. Like I said, I think a bend in between the two designs would be better. Also, we like the font, but the gap between the R and A is too wide, it looks kind of funny. Kind of like GR ACE. I'm hoping there is a way to fix that without changing the font too much altogether.
  • Dear CH, here is my design artwork #82. I hope you like and appreciate it. Best regards, Reni
