Play | Work | Sync technology consulting

I thoroughly enjoyed the contest process, and will absolutely undertake it again when I need more design work. Also, I'm going to tell everyone I meet about the excellent experience. Your software is great, your terms are rational, and I got a great logo! The sole and only reason I am taking off a point is that the designer became somewhat less responsive to my requests for minor fixes. The most important ones got done, and quickly enough, and it's possible s/he didn't feel the requested changes made sense, so just ignored them. I didn't press the issue, because I could make the tweaks myself in Illustrator. But I could never have designed such a classy logo! I'm really psyched to start using it.

Project description

NOTE TO ALL CONTESTANTS: **Thank you for reading this note before your final submissions:** Almost all of the __gears and arrows-in-a-circle and play-button triangles__ I've seen so far have been unsuccessful. One has to abstract or stylize them pretty dramatically to make them not look coarse or agressive or bland. ____________________________________________ Project Description I am a technology advisor, specializing in teaching people how to use their gadgets to be productive, creative, efficient, and mobile. I help my clients stay in sync, balancing the things they have to do with the things they love to do: Play Work Sync. I need a sleek, singular pictoral mark that represents the relationship between those three things. My twitter handle and company name is jjmarcus, all lower-case, and Play | Work | Sync is my brand, and the title of my blog and Facebook page, so I write it like this: Play | Work | Sync by jjmarcus The history of my business is as small-business and residential IT, specializing in Apple Mac/iPhone/iPad/Server, Google Apps, and cloud applications. I have rebranded this year to focus on mobile productivity, and break out of the traditional IT mold. My most competitive qualities, besides knowing my stuff, are the friendliness, patience, empathy, and consideration that are not typical of IT nerds. To give an example of my style, I have attached a bit of typography that I created myself just to get some business cards out real quick. I don't necessarily prefer such a thin font, but it was the one that looked best at the time, and I tweaked the characters a bit. Also, I like a logo that looks good in all-black, but a bit of color would not be unwelcome. Again, it needs to be more friendly than serious, more rounded than sharp or hard-edged. Finally, if it helps, my web site is jjmarcus.com, and my Facebook page is http://facebook.com/PlayWorkSync Thank you for considering my contest. _________________________________________________ Some notes after receiving submissions: Two arrows in a circle is by now the accepted sign for sync—it is hitting critical mass (cf. http://getsyncd.com/ or a google image search for "sync logo" or "sync symbol"). I think I'd rather incorporate the idea into a slightly more complex logo than leave it by itself. Ditto for the Play button (google "play symbol"). One thought: I try to get my clients to think of "sync" as a wheel, where the data flows through the hub via the spokes, and the devices—phone, tablet, mail app—are at the ends of the spokes. So I lean towards a logo that incorporates all three ideas into one symbol. The alternative is that each symbol be quite unique. I'm not wed to circles, though they are appealing. • My target audience needs a symbol that is not geometrically complicated. My clients are looking for us to make their technology more simple, rather than more complex. So it is likely that the shapes need to be abstracted. Don't be wed to the outside being circular (a common motif so far). • to be specific about the type: the name I need represented is "Play • Work • Sync by jjmarcus" or "Play | Work | Sync by jjmarcus" "Play • Work • Sync" can be either all caps or with the first letter of each word capitalized. "jjmarcus" has to be lowercase, and "by" can go either all caps or lowercase (probably the latter). Finally, "Play • Work • Sync" has to outweigh/be larger than "by jjmarcus" but I don't have a specific ratio for their respective sizes.
