Winning design #43 by lizonil, Logo Design for The Artist Pizzeria Contest
Gold Medal

designed by lizonil

Project description

The Artist Pizzeria is a new restaurant chain opening up with our initial opening happening in Covina, California. The customer will go down a line choosing their own toppings to be placed on their custom made pizza. The pizza is then placed in a stone fired oven for 2-3 minutes and comes out ready to eat. We will also be offering craft beer, home made gelato, fresh salads, authentic Italian cappuccino, and baked cookies. The restaurant also offers free WiFi and invites people to hang out, versus just eating and leaving. We will have local artists paint their versions of pizza to be displayed in the restaurant for sale as well. The Artist Pizzeria is looking for a unique, fun and easy to understand logo/ brand for a new fast / casual restaurant where the customer designs their own "work of art" pizza, which is fast fired' in a stone oven and ready to eat in under 5 minutes. The logo must be easily understood that we are selling "design your own" pizza's. Note: We suggested colors to use. Nothing is written in stone. If you have your own color choice that corresponds with your logo idea, then use that as well.

  • Hi CH, I have entered my first entry #12 (#28). The design comprises of all aspects mentioned in the brief. The various toppings and colors of slices represents the 'build your own' aspect. The stone oven behind it depicts the fire baking and the brush stroke effect finishes of the artist/design aspect. Would be great to hear your feedback. Feel free to ask for any changes. Thanks!
  • Dear Contest Holder, Here are my first entries. The A is made up from a Salvidor Dali style moustache with a paint brush. These colour have an italian feel and work on white and dark backgrounds. #5 #6 #7 #8. I am always open to suggestions on fonts, colours etc., so please do not hesitate to ask.0 Kind regards, Liz : )
  • Hello iron190! I submitted design #22. Please Let me know if you have any suggestion. Thank You So much!
  • Thank you for your submissions. We will provide feedback soon. I have been looking at these on my iPad. Please forgive me if I have given you a bad rating. Not on purpose.

  • Hello Liz, As Anthony said, we are very impressed with your design. #36 is also our favorite, and would work well for the more vertical box in one sign, but we will also need a horizontal version for our other sign. Can we please see #36 in a horizontal aspect also? Lastly, we would love to see a few other colors of your choosing for both the letters and the background please. Thank you, Paul G. Volk
    • Hi Paul, No problem at all, I will try it with other colours and in the vertical layout also. : )

  • Hi Anthony, I have added a few more designs, trying different colours, fonts, switching colours around. I am not sure I like them any better, although my favourite is #36, I made it fit into a square. I thought this would look nice on the square sign. I think the signs would look good with one with a dark background and one with a white background. The letters would glow through the dark background, in fact, a dark background sign with light letters shows up much better than a white background. It might look good on a blackboard too... I will show you that. : )
  • Hi Lizonil, We have taken great interest in your logo and appreciate your numerous submissions! It has quite a "brand" feel to it and is original. You are very talented. We would like to see a few more variations: 1. I would like to see the lettering to be a bit more legible from now on to all the changes, but same design. Meaning if you could ease a bit on the cursive. It is easy to see when walking down a sidewalk but not as much when driving by. Our competitors are "strong, simple, clear" such as www.chipotle.com www.pizzarev.com See their logos at the top left of each website? Very easy to read when driving by. 2. Could you please make a version with the same colors but a red tip on the brush end? Just curious on what it would look like. 3. Could you please make a version where you change the green all to red? (But keep the brush end green) The opposite of #2. 4. Could you please make a version in which "The" and "Pizzeria" is more of a pizza crust color. It may or may not work. 5. If you have more ideas you are welcome to submit as well. Just so you can see, we will be hanging a light up sign with the logo. We are hoping you can show us a nice background color to bring out our logo as well. See bottom picture on this link: http://s28.postimg.org/nwepv9hgd/the_artist_pizzeria_1.jpg Thank you, Anthony
    • Hi Anthony, Thanks for your feedback. I will work on your logo this morning and try out all your suggestions. I will try it with different backgrounds etc also for your light up sign. Kind regards, Liz : )

  • We are currently considering other logos at the moment as some submitted do not need changes. Please bare with us until the contest is over ^_^
  • Hello Paul, I have mocked up the signs in various combinations so that you can get an idea of what they will look like together. They will obviously look better in real life. I noticed that there is a tree that has been cut off in your original mock up. So if it is still there, bear it in mind if the green sign is at the bottom, it might get lost in the green leaves and your front of shop sign too. I do like that it looks bespoke and not like any old pizza takeaway, that all seem to look the same. The logo will work well on uniforms, embroidered, on menus and blackboards too. Very exciting!! : )
    • Yes VERY EXCITING! Dwelling on all this, get back to you asap!

    • Hello Liz, Congratulations! Thank you for your patience and understanding our need for so many options. My understanding, now that we've picked you as our winner, is that we have 7 days to finalize the design and then download file(s). We're still not set on the color combinations, so we'll ask you for a few more examples in a moment. We've created a mock-up for you that shows the basic layout and relative size that works for us, my employer is thinking that "PIZZERIA" should be as large as "ARTIST", he wants to make sure that people driving by know it's a pizzeria. What are your thoughts on this? Here is the link http://postimg.org/image/r4sfhqdvp/ Here are the color combinations we'd like to see, and could you please put them in the sign boxes and building frontage as before. 1) White Background with the word "ARTIST" and "face" in Red/Brown and "THE" and "PIZZERIA" in dark grey. 2) White Background with the word "ARTIST" and "face" in Red/Brown and "THE" and "PIZZERIA" in Burnt Orange. 3) White Background with the word "ARTIST" and "face" in Red/Brown and "THE" and "PIZZERIA" in Dark Brown. 4) Red/Brown background with the word "ARTIST" and "face" in White and "THE" and "PIZZERIA" also in White. 5) Red/Brown background with the word "ARTIST" and "face" in a Butter color, and "THE" and "PIZZERIA" in White. 6) Butter color background with the word "ARTIST" and "face" in Red/Brown, and "THE" and "PIZZERIA" in Dark Brown or Black (your choice) Thanks for all your hard work, it's after midnight here so we'll talk with you tomorrow. Cheers! Paul

  • Hello Liz, Thank you, we are good with your design and fonts for the vertical and horizontal. We are still undecided on colors, for the vertical light box sign, (the box on the bottom) we would like to use just the face and the A with the mustache, effectively becoming a logo separate from all the other letters. Can you show us 2 different background colors? one using the color used for "pizzeria" in #43, and one using the color used for "Artist" in #38. For the horizontal light box on top, can you show us "lettering only", without the face and the mustache, you decide colors that will work with lower light box. The sign placed flush on the front of the building will be the full design as it is on #43, probably the horizontal. Please adjust colors accordingly to work with light boxes sign just mentioned. I'll periodically look for any questions you may have based on what I just wrote you. Thank you again, we're almost there. Paul G. Volk
    • Hi Paul, sorry for late reply. I will work on that for you and get it back to you as soon as possible. Thanks again. Liz : )

    • No problem Liz, thank YOU!

  • Hi there Paul, I have submitted my designs for you - #66 #68 #69 - My idea is based around the combination of paint and pizza. As artists use paint as a 'topping' to their canvas, your customers choose 'toppings' for their pizzas, and so the graphic on the logo visually presents this concept. The graphic style has been kept clean and clear with a vectored cartoon style as you were looking for something fun looking and casual. To further this design the ingredients of the 'pizza paint' can be altered to your taste. The typography also aims to match the image with a friendly, easy to read style.
  • Hi Liz. Thank you for your new submissions. Since we are still deciding on colors, we figure it would be best if we played around with the colors from our end. Once we hit "download source files," will we be able to use Photoshop from the files we download? -Anthony
