Project description

The University of Texas Nutrition Institute (UTNI) is an annual conference hosted at UT's main campus in Austin, Texas. The conference addresses all aspects of nutrition - from the latest in scientific research to hands-on culinary workshops. We are looking for a SET of THREE LOGOS for this project. We aren't necessarily looking for three completely separate designs - instead we would like one logo to represent the University of Texas Nutrition Institute as a whole, and then two different "subset" logos that could be used to represent a specific aspect of the nutrition institute. (To give you an idea of what we are looking for, we've included an attachment of the set of Marriott logos. Marriott is the over-arching brand, and then there are specific variations to designate the individual types of hotels. In this example, the basic Marriott logo does not include the details of the individual hotels. However, we are open to an over-arching design that contains all the components of the program that gets "broken down" to individual logos for each of the two sub-topics.) The logos should be easily recognizable as related to the University of Texas and related to each other (standing alone, in pairs or all three together). Use of University of Texas identity graphics (such a Bevo, the tower, burnt orange) is permissible but not required. (Details on existing UT logos and colors can be found here: http://www.utexas.edu/brand-guidelines/brand-identity) Here are the details on the three logos we are looking for: Logo #1 - This should represent the UTNI as a whole. Logo #2 - This should represent the applied and culinary aspects of nutrition. At the conference, this track of study is called "MINDFUL" (Making Intentional Nutrition Decisions for Ultimate Living). The word MINDFUL does not need to appear in the logo, but the logo should emphasize that this is the "food" track of study and perhaps incorporate the idea of mindfulness. Logo #3 - This should represent the scientific, academic, and research aspects of nutrition. At the conference, this track of study is called "INSPIRE" (Inquiries in Nutritional Science to Promote Interpretation of Research Evidence). The word INSPIRE does not need to appear in the logo, but the logo should emphasize that this is the "research" track of study and perhaps incorporate the idea of inspiration. We would like for the logo to convey the idea that nutrition research includes aspects of many other sciences. Fields of study you may consider including are: chemistry, anatomy, biology, genetics, epidemiology, public health and food science. As for the look and feel of the logos, these are the descriptions from a planning brainstorming session: wellness, culinary, healthy, forward-thinking, fun, social, polished, science, research, academics, behavior, health professional, community *****Additional useful information***** University of Texas brand identity information, including preferred colors: http://www.utexas.edu/brand-guidelines/brand-identity Look and feel of Austin: http://www.austintexas.org An example of a nutrition research journal: http://www.adajournal.org

  • Hi Contest Holder, I have submitted #4 that I've designed. Feel free to share your feedback. Best, EGScoglio
  • Too generic. Doesn't convey the identity of the university or highlight the nutrition focus of the program.
  • CH, I would appreciate feedback on designs #12 and #13. Thanks much, dlbonanno64
  • About #6 My logo set is modern, fun and has an academic look. The main logo consists of the lone star and the other two logos incorporate symbols to show the culinary and scientific aspects of nutrition. I hope you like my designs. I'd appreciate your feedback. Thank you!
  • Like design #7, we like the overall look of this set. Just a bit unsure about the measurement markings on the apple.
    • Hi CH, Thanks for your feedback. Try hard and get some new idea. See #16 & #17.

  • We like the "seal" feeling of the designs, and the unity between the three logos. We like the orange and blue color combo, and the Texas star and atom. We are not crazy about the fork/spoon/knife, and would like for the "Nutrition Institute" or "UTNI" to stand out more.
  • We like how these three are united in feel, but are afraid the the background image might be too subtle to be noticed by the casual observer. We do like how the "UTNI" stands out.
  • We like the "seal" look of this logo and the color distribution. We would like to see the words MINDFUL and INSPIRE maybe. We understand what you were going for with the apple and the head, but it looks just a bit off. And while the microscope does make one think of the science/research aspect of the program, we are afraid it might look a bit dated.
  • We like the colors and the layout of this logo set. All three logos are related, yet distinct. We like how the apple is repeated on the MINDFUL and INSPIRE logos, but that they are used to represent the two different aspects of the program. Just unsure of the sine wave design on the apple - any other "science-feeling" imagery you could use?
  • Overall, we very much like the look of this logo. The "UTNI" name stands out, we like the colors, the edge of the seal, and the layered atom/person/food thought of the research logo. Unfortunately, the "Food Pyramid" design is no longer the education model endorsed by the USDA. It now uses "MyPlate" which I don't think would look as good as the pyramid. Any other shapes you can think of using?
  • About #23 #24 #25 Thank you for your feedback so far, I did change the 'mindful'-symbol and also created a whole new design idea. Please, let me know how you like the changes and the new designs. Thank you!
  • - Could you replace the Inspire apple with one that has a regular stem and contains an atom (we like the atom images used in submissions #14 and #6) - Could you add rectangles under the Mindful and Inspire logos with the words "Mindful" and "Inspire" (similar to submission #15)

      |--| Hi smikosh, Thanks for your suggestions. Just upload modified version. By the way, I have reported that entries #35 & #36 similar to my #7 & other version. From the beginning "aris amin" #14 used my main logo layout, I think it's OK for that design because adding "book" and different colors. But now having "head + apple" that is too similar to my design. I'd appreciate that if you could treat this "copy" issue fairly. Thank You.

  • About #42 & #43 I'd appreciate your feedback on my new designs. Thank you!
  • Could we please see this one with whole apples (no wedge removed) and with an atom instead of a flask in the Inspire logo?
  • We love the colors and the layout! We just don't want to use the pyramid or MyPlate images... Could we see a version with these changes: - In the Mindful logo, remove the pyramid and replace with the head with an apple within - In the Inspire logo, remove the pyramid so it is just the head in front of the atom
  • We really like this design! Our suggestions: -Remove the "M" and the "I" from the center of the Mindful and Inspire logos and just use the star; Add the words "Mindful" and "Inspire" *under* the logos similar to the way it is done in design #15 - In the Inspire logo, use a whole apple (not one with wedge removed) and replace the image in the lower right corner with an image of an atom (like in submission #6) - Replace the carrot with an apple in the Mindful logo

  • About #55: The concept of design is similar to my #34, but outline of image is "open book".
