Project description

Backyard Harvest is an Organic Produce Gardening Service. The business is similar to a Landscaping, Lawn Care service, but we exclusively design, build, and maintain raised bed, organic, produce gardens for our customers in their yard, for their consumption. We do all the hard work of gardening, all the customer needs to do is pick what's fresh and eat it. As part of the brand, all printed materials, including business cards will be printed on recycled and compostable card stock which will have a light brown color to the stock. Please take that into consideration for all the entries. The two primary demographics are folks 55 and older, whose typical interest is eating healthier as they age looking to avoid or minimize diet related health issues and young families looking to feed their children the best food possible. So the card needs to appeal to both of these groups. As you can see from the logo, the brand is open and approachable with a bit of fun. The colors should be consistent with the brand and logo, the colors of the earth and fresh organic produce. I want to use both sides of the card. The front for the basic contact information and logo, the back for a tagline, which currently is: "A Farmer's Market just outside your door." I'm open to having some design elements on the back as well. • Hi all, This is part of the brief, so please keep this in mind. As part of the brand, all printed materials, including business cards will be printed on recycled and compostable card stock which will have a light brown color to the stock. Please take that into consideration for all the entries. To clarify further, I'm thinking my preference would be to have the brown of the card stock show through in some areas and not cover to the entire card both front and back in ink. So the cardstock itself will have a light brown paper color. Unfortunately, there was not a color close to the stock in the color selector of the contest. Thanks.
  • Hi all, I just added the following information to the brief. Information for the front of the card: Daniel Hebert Founder www.backyardharvest.com Toll Free: 888-263-7770 Local: 714-386-6567 daniel.hebert@backyardharvest.com 2701 Harbor Blvd. Suite E-2-122 Costa Mesa, CA 92626 Thanks.
  • Hi Herbert I uploaded #4 and #5. I am a bit unsure about the cardstock background i used in the mockup... Both cards are showing the cardstock instead of covering it with ink as you wanted too. Depending on the printer you can also use techniques like embossing or uv varnish for part or whole logo / text... Feedback would be awesome! Thanks Andrei
    • The background you used for the cardstock looks fine. It is very close to what the actual paper looks like. Certainly close enough for the contest. I have a friend who owns a print shop so I will definitely take your suggestion and speak to him about different print and ink options for that stock. Thanks.

      |--| Thanks for the comment. Having them printed at a friend is a very good option, this way you can be picky because friends are friends :). The correct size is 3.5"x2" i presume and not 3x2.5 like in the brief i guess. If you have any suggestions designwise i am all ears. Regards Andrei

#8 #10 Just posted a first proposal. Let me know if this is something you had in mind and if I can improve it in any way. Is it perhaps a nice idea to print the businesscards on shipping tags? https://img1.etsystatic.com/000/0/6846526/il_fullxfull.327176281.jpg
  • Hi Daniel, I've submitted design #37 and #38. I've created special icon for completing the tagline. Please take a look closer, there are: a door, a shopping cart and a smiling face on "door" word. Let me know what is your opinion.
  • Please have a look at my entries #14, #16 & #22. I would like to hear what you think.
  • I definitely like the overall look of this card the best. I especially like the wood grain used at the bottom and on the back. It very much supports the brand. I would like to see this on the brown recycled card stock with the gloss finish removed. On the front, I like the green bands over the wood grain, but would prefer the green background on the top and behind the logo removed with the card stock showing through instead. I think then instead of the white text, it would be negative space with the brown from the card showing through.
    • Dear CH, thank you so much for feedback & rating my entry ! i upload new designs as your required changes done i hope you like my new variation any more changes please feel free to ask me thanks again

  • No outline and less rounded stock is much better, but similar feedback on the other elements.
    • Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it. Here are the updates, please have a look - where usually would be white text, it is now made so brown from the card stock is showing through. #48 & #49

  • Also, it would be great to see with the real name and information.
  • Same feedback on the font. The logo and vegetable seemed to be screened which I don't really like.
  • I don't like the font. For older people it seems that it would be difficult to read.
  • The logo seems way too prominent and the overall feel of the card seems off to me.
  • I don't really like the entire logo repeated on the back.
  • A diagonal color band, just does not seem right to me. The gold highlighted font seems to stray too far from the logo and is a bit hard to read.
  • Same feedback.
  • Overall feedback for all entries: With the serif font of the logo being so square and angular, the rounded card just seems a bit off. I prefer the logo on the front to make the card easier to locate in a stack. The broken outlines sort of make them look like printing errors. The logo has been muted, which changes the logo and branding completely. I don't really like the screened version of the vegetables either.
  • The door as a shopping cart is quite clever, but introduces new elements and pulls the brand in a different direction. I also think the font for the tagline is a bit too playful.
    • I appreciate your opinion. I would love to make a new design but I've reached the maximun uploaded for this contest. Thank you.

    • Thank you for your work on the entries.

  • Similar feedback to the other one, a bit too busy. Also, the scaling of the logo is way off.
  • Same feedback as the other similar one along with the overall feedback.
