Project description
Epilepsy is a disease that effects 1 in 26 people over a lifetime. It has many, many faces. Some people develop epilepsy in childhood – some later in life. Some people are very disabled by their epilepsy, and some have their seizures so far under control that they look “typical.” Some “only” have epilepsy, and others had epilepsy due to other conditions (like a brain injury). Some have tonic clinic seizures (AKA grand mal) while others have Absent (AKA “Staring”) seizures.
Have you ever heard of Flat Stanley? We want to do something like that, but we want to create HOPE. At Epilepsy Foundation New England, we provide services to people with epilepsy and we raise money for research and to support more programs. We want a character that accentuates our brand and makes it fun and accessible while sending a powerful message – we want people to have HOPE at the camps we provide for kids with epilepsy – to have HOPE in the hospital – to have HOPE at our community walks. Our vision statement is Help for Today, Hope for Tomorrow. And HOPE used to refer to a program called Helping Other People with Epilepsy. We see HOPE on flags? On bumper stickers? On t-shirts. And maybe a plush item one day. HOPE might have her own Facebook page and give advice to folks or just a sympathetic ear.
We are an independent affiliate of the Epilepsy Foundation of America. A winning design should conform to the style guide attached - specifically pages 8, 23, and 25 (colors, fonts). Purple is the color of epilepsy.
We are just about to rethink about website and other "stuff." So if you visit our site, don't let it's style influence you. I just started as the head of the Foundation in July, and we are retooling.
On behalf of families like mine who are effected by epilepsy, Thanks for thinking about Hope!
