yes, there were times, but it happened to me a number of times & even got 100 twice without taking the gold.When CH shows preference about any specific design, if there is already a design that has been rated 95-98, does it dicourage you to enter the contest or your participate anyway?
so as long as the contest is not yet closed everyone still has the chance of winning.

I've won gold with 0 points and won silver with 100 points! Some CH rate high and some rate low, some see the design they want and stop rating any other designs. While there is time left on the clock there is always a chance.

Yep - your new entry could become the CH's new favorite! 
I think I've won a couple golds that way. I've also seen where the top-rated didn't end up winning and a design that had been entered with a lower rating has ended up winning - you just never know.

It really depends. If the CH is motivated and online frequently (so you know they are giving feedback and actually paying attention the their contest) then I may enter even if there is a highly rated design. Typically though, if there is a design in the 90s I don't enter the contest. Time is money and I feel my time would be better spent on other contests at that point.

Why not! If the CH shows favor to one, then he or she will have another preference. Usually speaking not many CH has a fair artistic judgment. I have seen so many meaningful and unique designs, but they did not even get 1 point... Any way, I love to be challenge in order to have creative mind!
