how much time does it take to create an illustration like this? 40 hours? 80 hours? more?

I think few weeks, really too much details. But very great to know that this can be done with just use of illustrator.

That is amazing. In my opinion, it seems easier to do this is 3D.

Impressive, but why put that much effort into it when you can probably create it in a 3D program much faster?

I agree with arcticsnpr.

These are made to scale a bigger picture without loosing detail.

A 3d you need to make the whole thing in 3d where you need to have pictures from each sides and each part to get it all perfect, instead of tracing part and shines of only this picture. And when you are done saving it is no problem while 3d if you want to have it for a giant billboard you be waiting hours till it is done with rendering.

But these skills are pretty good if you know this because you can make great web3.0 or 3d or realistic colored logo. I am learning this too but it is a very tedious and boring process. But good to do it allot to get learn to do the process faster and faster.

The beauty in this guy's work is that it's all (like Chung Dha said) completely scalable. I love vector art!

Yes, there are people who do that. I go to Full Sail, and in our 3rd month (2nd with illustrator) they give us the task of creating a photo realistic object in. This is a gallery I got some inspiration from while I was sweating through this project.

Just amazing! He certainly has the mesh tool down pat. Makes you want to spend more time working with it.

Avsolutely amazaing, I agree with chung dha, making a 3d would be also complicated and the rendering time for a big picture with all that curves, shines and swadows would be insane, plus anyone using 3d can make stuff like that, a real artist uses another tool, like illustrator, that prooves he can work it, and way to do it. Im new at illustrator, hope someday i will be the 50% good as he is.

Yeah, that's gradient meshing. It's amazing what can be don using beziers ...

Does anyone made up so far any approaching artwork to "good-looking meshes" and would like to share it here?

I'm on kind of something, but it's not photorealism, it's more like an shaded illustration... but needs lot more to be finished ...
