One of the greatest features of Paint Shop Pro is the ability to work with layers. Layers can give your projects immense flexibility. When starting a new project, you are using the first layer. You can add multiple layers for each element you add on the first layer. So if you open an image in Paint Shop Pro, it becomes the first layer. If , for instance you add a caption bubble to your image, this becomes your second layer; and if you add a text to that caption it will becomes the third layer. You can modify all three layers individually, without affecting the other layers that you have. When you are done editing your layers and want to save your work as one image, you can merge your layers into one single layer. You can also stack your layers to make one layer appear to float on top of any other layer. This is used when you insert text on an image.
