I found this great tutorial some time ago for working with the gradient mesh tool in Illustrator and making a vector portrait with it.

Adobe Illustrator Gradient Mesh Portrait Tutorial

Someone here on the forum posted a link to the vector image of Kiera Knightley which is actually made by Paul Bush - the creator of this tutorial. He IS good at what he does :) .

It (the tutorial) is really good, it actually helped me learn how to work with this tool so I think it will be really helpful for anyone interested in photo-realistic vector graphics.

I had to do a portrait of myself on Ilustrator for an assignment; using mesh wasn't mandatory but I gave it a try.
I learned a lot about the mesh tool in the process, but the final product was a bit of a mess. :p
I watched a lot of tutarials, but none was of making an actual portrait so this one should be useful, even if it looks very complicated, thanks! ;)

I've learn away around to do things that looks like mesh but it aint mesh at all. Mesh tool should star by using a square with a grid and make from a square to the final but it very hard found using masks, blends and radial gradients much easier to get the same effects.
