to be able to participate in professional contests..u should have a vector based program like adobe illustrator or coraldraw....ETC!! vector designs keep high quality in any size..u don't lose quality by resizing image like bitmap images that based on pixels..
i use illustrator myself

Marty,
You can try Inkscape it is a free vector program that uses SVG (scalable vector Graphics) it allows you to export in pdf or ai files also. This is a vector program which is the required format for logos on this site and in general. Here is the link Inkscape I use Illustrator but I have heard from others that this program is pretty powerful for a free program. It can not hurt to download it, it is free.

Here are some links to help you get started.
http://www.designcon...-designers.html
http://www.designcon...pplication.html
http://www.designcon...c-contests.html
And please read ALL the stickies at the top of the forum.
I'd also like to add that with the increase in new members because of our new open to all contests I'll be deleting useless posts... Like "nice" or "cool".. in hopes of everyone understanding what it really takes to be an elite team member.

I've heard illustrator and Coral are both great as well, though.

Haha, love this title.
as funny as it may be it's not the way to do things around here.. If you post 10 post with in 10 minutes they are meaningless and have nothing to add to DC.
The rules are set here for a reason and not to follow them can result in a ban.
Don't be in such a hury make you precents here mean something.

If you're going to enter any Logo contests they have to be done all in illustrator. good luck

OK ok Coy. I got a little bit eager since this is the 1st time I have ever even considered doing this sort of thing. But I will do it in illustrator. On the contest that I was looking at though (the Buckle down one), it says that it can also be a 300dpi jpeg, which is in their about project section. Furthermore, Buckle Down posted that it does not have to be vector based. If that is the case, can one of my entries be done in Photoshop? Just wondering.

I believe the buckle down contest is an exception to the rule and appears that you can do it in photoshop. But don't hold me to that. the boss will have to tell you 100% if that's correct or not.
