So, I'm still figuring out how this works. Once I post 10 threads will I automatically be able to participate in the contests? Thanks for the help!

yes, you will be able to participate in the open contests.
You will not be able to participate in the contests open to Elite Designers only.

Yes! I got paid within 24 hours after winning a recent contest and uploading the requested files. It was a 'guaranteed' contest which means that the money was prepaid and given to DesignContest's administration to hold.

And then just as long as you upload the proper files after the client selects you as the winner, and they acknowledge that they received the files, then the money will be transfered to you.
