I'm using Photoshop, but I don't think it's the best option for designing logos, isn't it?

No photoshop is not the best option. You can create vector files in photoshop but they are very complicated and awkward to work with. Photoshop vectors are not user friendly per se' for the client either.

Please read through our knowledgebase DesignContest.net Logo Design Guidelines

I tried to open in Freehand the eps file for putting a logo for a contest but I couldn't, just in Photoshop....in Freehand I'm designing the logos, and just export the images to Photoshop...

thanks

The viewing logo in a contest can be jpg. You can't upload an eps or ai file for viewing in a contest. The ai and eps are the deliverables if you win. the logo has to be created as an vector but for viewing purposes in the contest jpg is is fine

For me I'm using photoshop first since we have easier pen tool here and I just save it as psd and have it imported to illustrator and make a similar colors for the vector file., it would be good if you have basis already when making in illustor it would be more convenient and faster.

You can use flash then import into Ai. Flash is also vector but somewhat acts like raster. It is much easier to design in flash.
