I always sketch on paper. It's an old habit a like.
And then I streamline all with my pen tablet.
This allows me to impress my sensations, inspiration or other sort of stuff wherever I am: In a bus or drinking a beer with a custumer in a pub or something...

what do you do when designing a logo?
Make a sketch on paper or directly made on the computer.

I think doing a rough sketch on paper will give you atleast an idea what exactly you want.

When there is a requirement of logo designing comes to me,

from some one who don't know me and my skills using what i am able to do for them.

i open google search to find a logo design with the initials similar to the company, who is in a look for a logo design.

then i finalize a design to get inspired from( Copy in simple words) and find ways how modify it further so it starts looking different from its original version.

when modification is done, then i color it with some other colors, making hard for others to do simply a google image search and get the design sitting

there in the search results page.

you may find more details on what i am trying to say at this link:

http://www.gtgraphic...nericlogos.html

Sketching?

no body(exceptions are every where) do that now a days while working with a person who does not, knows you well.

As it is hard to digest something, what your eyes are seeing for the first time. No matters how Un-Generic it is, just like a flying car.

- first waste your precious time in sketching ur idea to paper.

- then waste you precious money in buying a Scanner for you to scan the design what you just have sketched to paper..

- then again waste your precious time in tracing that out using some vector based software.

(if you have already earned plenty of money from graphic designing, you may waste it on buying special sketching devices, just like what i did, i am having wacom cintiq companion as well a Microsoft surface pro 4 or can also go for a simple graphic tablet with no visual aid, the thing what i have started with. no need to scan and trace it out with some vector software as what ever you sketch on it going to be in a vector format, Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC they both are designed specially to use with graphic designing tabs)

- and then provide it to the person who is in a look for a new logo design with a probability less then a 10% for that, if he is going to like what you have done for him.

I guess,

Sketching is not a good idea at all ?

while working among the people who follows the same exact path, what i have mentioned above to get done a logo design.

Google is good for research, nevertheless, a lot of research can definitely mix your primary vision or goal of the entire identity. A Logo Design isn't something you can just come up with an automation tool or with the help of a few design ideas online. It takes a professional and experienced designer to know which curve twirks what sort of information for a specific industry.

A lot of consumers spend a lot of money on basic logos and even expensive ones, but what matters the most is the experience of a designer or design house cooking your vision in to the final meal, that which will be showcased for every ones eyes or a given target audience. Choose a professional - make the right choice - understand and build rapport with your designer - and 'wala' your vision is a newfound reality!

For designing a logo one should keep some factors in minds that company name, brand, Logo should describe the purpose of the business or product that you offer.

brainstorming ideas on paper such as word associations, colors, etc. Is a good starting point. then proceed to do as many sketches as you can because sketching because sketching is a part of the design process then go onto the computer to further refine your sketches. This isnt just for logos but for all graphic design and design in general.

Usually if I want to design a design, I sit alone in the outside yard while drinking tea while looking for inspiration then I pour the idea into the paper then I make the computer more efficient while reflecting thoughts :)

There are different software used to design Logo. The most professional software is illustrator which is designers mostly used to design attractive 2d and 3d logos. In 3D Designs the designers can show the multi layers of designs which attract the audience and visitors.
