I would love your comments on my web design company's website:
http://www.emergemedia.co.uk/

I quite like it, but others don't seem that keen. What do you think??

Thanks in advanced for your comments... Good or bad

Let me first say that the problems with this site don't lie in what you have done, as what you have done, you have done right. Your animation is eased and the layout has potential, the font choice and sizing is a bit iffy but with a little tweaking it will look great.

What you haven't done, and I would love to see in this particular design, would be some more interesting uses of color. Judging from a lot of your portfolio sites I see that you have a wonderful grasp of color theory, and are not afraid to use it. I would also love to see some more personality thrown into the site, right now it comes off as very sterile and cold.

One other thing is the over abundance of text, and no imagery anywhere on the web site, if you are going to go for a pure text interface and layout I would highly suggest making what text you do have much more interesting.

Keep up the good work my friend :)

TKelley,

Thanks for taking the time to comment on my site. I have to say I agree with all of your comments. Because I have been working with the site for a few weeks I lost all perspective of what I was doing. I can see that the site might appear very cold, and it needs brightening up some what.

I think to be honest i'm going to go back to the drawing board on this one, and recreate a really simple but beautiful HTML site (its better for the search engines anyway). I'll keep you posted.

Thanks

James

yes it does look a bit cold... I do like the way the text is animated a lot! It feels like its not complete, maybe it needs a background to fill the white space...

I reallt like the colors of the site, but the site itself is a bit plain.

When clicking on a link, I would make the method of going back to the home a bit more obvious. It took me a few seconds to figure out how to get back to the main page after clicking on a link.

I think the site itself lacks character and is very devoid of color. Sometimes this could be a good thing but in this case I think it is a detriment. There is nothing saying "choose my services" in this site. I would at the very least add a nice transition and logo for the "emerge media" part. The name itself suggest change and interest. What you have done is stripped the user of anything emerging. Also I suggest a better usage of color. Also in your navigation it is not immediately obvious how to get back to the main navigation. You would be surprised how many users dont know to click the header image. Maybe add a back button. Also in your portfolio maybe add thumbnails. Once again you will be surprised how many users do not read your portfolio but just click away and look at pictures. What I do like is its simplicity. And semi usability. But I think you may need to do a lil more design work and research into the trends and what makes a successful design company.

Interesting scrolls. However, the overall site layout is a bit...dull. It simply has no effect on the visitor.
Like most have said, a logo and some "life" in your site would be wonderful.

More colors! more images! I really don't understand why you don't publish thumbnails of your works instead of just links!

Thank you all for your comments. I have really grown to hate the site now, and as I said in an ealier post, I am starting from scratch and just going for a very simple HTML based site with aspects of flash built in. It is so difficult trying to build a site for yourself or your own company. I much prefer creating sites for clients

actually your site is a good starting point. I would not scrap it. Just add some wow to it. Hang around some inspirational sites and get some ideas how the top designers are getting down.

You just need to add something to look at ..it all seems very clean and blank, try adding/designing something to put around in your header by your name.. and I love the pink!! It looks nice :)

I would have to say I really like the basic idea and look of your site. I'm all for the clean and simple. It is very easy to look at, and the colors go very well. It could use a little bit more though to look like is has some body.

Nice layout, good use of font (the DIN family is one of my favourites), I think you've done a nice online portfolio. Not impressed by the stuff you've showed in Our Work section.

I like it. The shocking Pink works very well. Also, in the works sections, I like the long images, that are above the text. They fit in very nicely. Layouts great aswell. Very centered, and easily read.

Nice and simple. Looks good! The only thing I don't really like is the pink, but probably because you don't ever see it. ;)

There have been a few good comments in here aswell as a lot of bad comments in my opinion. First of all there has been a lot of talk about the site being too bare and white... To a certain extent this is true; but I dont think this is a bad thing; as a VERY common mistake a lot of designers make is not having ENOUGH white space. The only thing about having a lot of white space is that it makes what you DO put in it that much more significant.

In light of this, (and this is my personal opinion) I would definetly scrap the mouse up top. Although, yes, the designer is the guy/girl with the mac computer. But we are much more than that - and you certainly dont want to come off as someone who just frigs around on a computer and out comes a design - because you are a thinker, a planner, a communicator etc...

ANYWAY, in place of this I would definetly add the logo up top (even though you already have the typography). If you put any other imagery there, keep it clean, clear and simple rather than illustrative or "photoshopy".

As for the colors - whoever says to change them is foolish; whoever says don't do it because "you never see it" is even MORE. I'm by no means a "pink guy". But it works very well in certain situations and I think youve managed to pull it off perfectly.

good luck

I think that your use of information and choice of portfolio items is good... I just don't feel much personality in your site. Its looks cold, almost metallic. In my mind a company needs to be personal and inviting... a person can go to any number of design companies, why should they choose you. Thats what I always ask myself... WHY ME? Good luck, though
