F1 is an amazing symbol. Simple and clever. The white space where you see the "1", in the design world it's called "gestalt", which is German for "essence or shape of an entity's complete form"

I think whenever a logo uses white space well, it makes the logo memorable and lasting. I doubt that F1 will be changing that anytime soon.
