...hmmm... you obviously haven't had many clients ! Clients LOVE to see their logo on their business - I still don't understand the No Mock-up Policy.. Actually, I find it decidedly strange. Please, fellow designers... Support is welcome on this matter!

Thomas,
If the clients require that, they will make a notification, either in the brief or the comment section. Otherwise, mock-ups in logo design can't be included.
So, it is not a strange thing, but professional.

clients want to see the entry, the design itself, If they decide they like it then many will ask to show the design on a product or website. So unless the contestholder has requested to see a mockup in logo contests then no mockups allowed in logo contests

@phatboytommy~ ...hmmm... Not sure who you are referring to regarding not having many clients??

The rules for Design Contest state that there are no mockups allowed for logo contests. It makes it fair and simple for all designers competing in a logo contest. There are contest sites out there that do allow mockups; however, since designers who are entering contests are doing spec work, why would you want to provide FREE additional concept/comp work in a logo contest? If a contest holder would like to visualize what their logo will look like on various collateral, they will ask within the contest (in brief or in comments section). Otherwise, if a CH has a need for additional design work involving their logo, they can take out a 1-on-1 with a designer or run another contest for their various design needs.

As mockup is not allowed, at least please consider provide us the contest holder mailing address, so that we can print a hat and a key-chain to be mailed to the client

What if the ch asks me to add the logo to a card design or whatever, just to get a better impression of it, i'd still have to make a card design, and i know the ch would have to pay for that, but in the end for this contest, he wont get the work files for the card design or anything unrelated to the logo. Question is, would this still get my design banned?

As Sharie said, if the CH asks YOU to put the logo on something to see how it looks, you are allowed to do mockups. If you are asked to put it on a card for instance but you don't provide the card files as you finalize the contest, i think you shouldn't be banned since the contest is for a logo, so you upload a logo as final. But maybe Sharie or a mod clarifies that.
Cheers

No one has ever been banned for such act. We have had clients come back and say the designer has not uploaded the winning files, the designer did upload but did not upload the exact files shown on a mockup card. We have had some clients think that if the design is put in a button or on a card then those files should come along with the winning files,

So for logo contest just submit the entry only unless the ch has specifically requested a mockup or provided the mock up to be used

Well then, how come on this recent contest i'm participating, i got a refraction for using mock-ups, despite being asked from the CH to do that. So in the reply message i got from DC i was informed that i can't use mock-ups, so i added a png image with design for a business card. Next thing i know im banned from commenting on the contest, so i decided to go live chat and ask a mod if it's possible that the card design is removed, so i could upload at least some color modification logo design ( in case i get corrections, since i lost all my uploads). Than, the next day i get reply from the moderator that i'm not allowed to use mock-ups ( was kind of generic answer), and got the card design removed, but didn't got any new uploads. So im hands tied in this contest, since i can't reply to the needs and questions from the CH plus i dont have any uploads left. Feeling treated a bit unfair, you'd agree.Cheers.

greenlung the ch did not ask you to put the entry on a mockup/card, he explained to you why and what he wanted the changes for IE a business card, he did not ask you to put the design on a card
