Can they really be compared?

I have a Squidoo lens that I started long ago, wanted to share the link:

Joomla vs Wordpress

Cast your vote!

Personally, I think Joomla has improved but Wordpress has become the standard.

Hello NakamuraToki,
I have worked with the two of them and I must say I cheated on Joomla with Wordpress and now I'm in love with Wordpress and dumped Joomla. :p

That's the way I see it.
Cheers,

o.o so many people have said that about Joomla LOL

the problem I see with Joomla is that they forgot to be flexible and versatile to compete more with Wordpress

I think that Wordpress Admin panels and interface is much more friendly for begineers and even for pros than Joomla .. mm nah .. I prefer Wordpress indeed :)

jjyepez said it. Having worked with both, Wordpress is better for someone who is just beginning, and is very user friendly. But, and it's a big "but", I like the interface of Joomla! much better because it lends itself for more customization. It also helps I have worked with it for a while, so that could be a biased statement.

I will go for wordpress. Joomla is good, but for yourself.. not for client who gets frustrated using it.

I prefer Joomla which as mentioned was very flexible. If it's an issue of clients not understanding it, just like Wordpress you can modify the admin interface. You can even make the look and feel of both switched. Extra work if you don't have the template for it though.

BTW you can modify or customize wp admin interface upto some extent. Didn't use Joomla a lot so not sure how much you can modify it in Joomla.
