Filter>Sharpen>Smart Sharpen... works quite well for me but the Hi-pass technique seems great!

The High Pass sharpening is really useful. I usually convert the duplicated layer into a smart layer first so that I can change the High Pass values later on. Another tip on this matter is to convert the High Passed layer into black and white so you don't get any strange color auras.

go to image menu and press auto level option.
