Once you become a little acclimated to the tools in Illustrator, look up the keyboard short-cuts. They are a HUGE time saver!

Pen tool and pathfinder are the most important things in Illustrator..well for me..they really are just too precious..specially pen tool..

In terms of short cut keys..(Windows)..Ctrl X and Ctrl F..are big factors also..well if you use pathfinder to engrave an object to another..and wanted to bring back the original object on the same position..

If you wish to resize the finished logo..just highlight it them (including the text) or select all(Ctrl A)...right click>transform>scale..then set your desired percentage..This is for the different variations of logo..because that's what in to most of the designs submitted..
