They're both great for different things. There's quit a bit of literature on the subject if you ever feel like digging in to the internet. More or less Ps should be used for photo-editing and web-work where as if you're looking for scalable vector artwork such as a logo, use Ai. Golden rule: don't work in Photoshop with text that's going to be printed.

Depends on your purpose. AI focuses on creating great vector graphics perfect for making company Logos, vector and clip arts. While PS primarily is for image manipulation and graphics design.

Both Best, :D I started working on photoshop and doing high resolution (vector-like) designs only by the use of Pen tool. But just like others says when you learn how to you Vector-base Software like Illustrator. you can probably do better if you are dealing with vector designs. So my stand is both best, because nowadays we must admit we use it both. It is this simple, you do pixelated Designs,(photo) obviously you can work efficiently in PHOTOSHOP. When Dealing in more vivid lay-out and design from scratch you should work in Illustrator.

First, think of what's your design for, and choose which you should use. But you can use them both. :)

Depends on your intentions I suppose. In many cases it may be best to use both. Illustrator is a vector based software where as Photoshop is more for editing images. Photoshop however could easily be used to touch up your work in Illustrator!

oh my god, some guys here can not distinguish pixels of vectors. both programs are awesome, but in different ways. so I think you should not compare one with the other.

Which platform is better? The answer will depend on the specific situation. Illustrator is best for clean, graphical illustrations while Photoshop is better for photo based illustrations.

Yup. So I think there should never be a competition between both software because they serve different purposes.

Both are awesome applications. They go hand in hand. I scan to PS and adjust my file, then work it in Ai. It really depends on what you need to do.
