Both are excellent, they have similar functions, but the results are different.
In my case, I prefer Photoshop.

For work I use both a photoshop and the illustrator. Both programs are very necessary and without them anywhere, but I love more illustrator there opportunities more.

The major difference between Photoshop and Illustrator is quite significant. Photoshop uses rasterized images, which are basically images that are pixelly (yeah I know thats not a word) and most times blury. Illustrator, however, is very smooth and has a extremyly high DPI, which is vector graphics. The main thing about vector, is that you can scale it, and it will still stay the same DPI. I believe that is the difference.

Knowing the difference between Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator can help you choose which software to use when creating and enhancing your art. Photoshop generates raster (bitmap) images while Illustrator generates vector images.
